This is an incredibly boneheaded question, I recongize to my shame, but here it is: What is the effect of subscribing to a forum? What does it do? Thanks.

You get notified by email when anyone first posts to that thread since you last read it.

Yeah, that's how the THREAD subscription works; so I was expecting the forum thing might work the same; but it apparently doesn't, 'cause I signed up for handful of fora and haven't gotten any notifications.

About the only reason I can see for a forum subscription is that it will place a link to each subscribed forum in your "User CP" page. That way you will be able to see only the few forums you might be interested in at a glance without having to scroll or without having the other forums clutter up your view. The subscription feature isn't as useful here on THR as it might be on some boards that have a lot more forums (on several pages) than we do.

If that isn't the purpose behind the forum subscriptions, then I dunno.

Simple enough; thanks, Mal.
