This ones for the Garand Guru's.
I went shooting today.After shooting approx. 20 rounds,I
noticed that a spent shell landed on the bench next to me
(unoccupied). What caught my attention was the mouth on
the case was sorta "D" shaped.Checked some other brass
and they were the same. This is new.Shot 2 weeks ago,
and it didn't do this.Same ammo,(Korean from AIM).
Other than that,it functions fine and accurate too!
I would like to keep the brass for future reloading.

Thanks,
QuickDraw

My Garand does the same thing every 10 or so cases. Probably happens on extraction. To be on the safe side I haven't tried to reload cases that are deformed like that. Maybe some other members know if it is safe to reuse.

It comes from hitting the op rod on the way out. A bit of stoning on the ejector and/or extractor can usually solve the problem, but it takes a bit of experience to know just what and how much to take off.

If you want to try just a parts swap, and you got the M1 from CMP, try them for parts. But make sure any parts are original GI.

As to the cases, it will be OK to load them a few times. If the normal expander plug doesn't fit, you can made a tapered rod that will open up the neck far enough for the expander plug to fit in.

That's common, mine dings the case mouth all the time. The resizing die straightens them out. I haven't noticed any weakness in the reloads.

Regards.
