Catchy title, huh?

Truth is simply that I boxed up my Colt 1991 (stainless) today and shipped it to Ted in AZ. That shipping is way expensive ($48 one way) but it will be worth it in the end.

Two local smiths did way wrong by me, making me a full-auto .45 when I really didn't want one, so I called Ted and asked for help. He was very polite and showed interest in my wants and needs. His work seems well regarded by posters here and on other boards. At least I know he's not a butcher....and that's very comforting right now.

The only thing I know, for sure, is that he's going to go over the firing mechanics to find out what the idiots did, and then correct it. After that, I'm looking to add Novaks front and rear, with the rear notch being opened up a good bit. Mr. Yost seems to think this is better for accuracy than the XS system, and it's more to my "traditional" liking.

I'm very excited. This is far better than Christmas was, trust me. The only downside is that the new BladeTech holster that I had ordered almost a month ago (custom job) arrived about two minutes after I finished boxing up my Colt. :( Now I'm gonna have to wait another month or more before I can try her out.

Could I please win just once?

Pop over to PistolSmith.com (http://www.pistolsmith.com/index.php) . Ted is a moderator here and his work is discussed too.

I know what you mean about the "full auto .45".... I had a 10mm go FA on me. You should've seen the looks on everyone's faces.... Priceless :D

Terry, that's where I got the idea from. There's one thread (2 fighters) with some pics of his work. Absolutely incredible.

I got some ideas from the pics, listened to the testimonials, made a phone call. The internet is a great thing.

The only downside is that I'm finding this rather addicting. Kinda like remodeling the house, I keep thinking, "well, since you've got it there...", or, "Hey, while you've got it apart...", or, "Wait, wait. Before you retouch the finish...."

This is gonna be expensive!

VaughnT, is it really true that some people only own ONE 1911??

I own two... but one of them belongs to the wife! :D

Being over here where I am, I don't have much chance to browse the gunshops....

Eventually I'd like to get a Valtro, then have a 38Super or 9mm 1911 converted to 9x23 Win...

....ONE of these days...most likely right after I win the lottery.

I just went though an almost identical story with a Springfield. After a couple local hacks did me no good, I bit the bullet and sent it to Jim Clark. He sent it back a couple weeks earlier than he said he would and it is beautiful. I have noticed that local shade tree gunsmiths charge just as much as gunsmiths that are at the top of the field. I wish I had figured that out years ago and didn't waste my time and money on these locals.

Porter, I am soooo sorry. Believe me, I did have two, but I sold one to a buddy in a fit of insanity. Honest. I am looking for another and will treat it real good, I promise.

444, you couldn't be more right. I don't know what I was thinking, but apparently it wasn't much. I wish I hadn't gotten burned, but at least now I know better and can say that I have a custom rig by Yost. They say that God works in mysterious ways...

I just got off the phone with Ted. Absolutely amazed with his demeanor and can't wait to see his handiwork.

The damage to the frame was more than he thought should be welded so he's looking to weld up the Brown gs and simply recut it to match the frame radius. Seriously ingenious solution to the problem.

The fate of the rest of the fire control mechanism is still undetermined as everything hinges on what he can work out with the GS.

I am still impressed with Mr. Yost and would endorse him without hesitation, even though I haven't seen the results yet.

PS= he does return all calls and emails. however, he is trying to finish projects and cannot get back to you immediately. he will get back to you; please be patient.
