OK, i'll step up and tell you. i am not a rich man. i will probably never hunt pronghorn or elk much less alaskan moose, bear or caribue. buffalo and mule deer are way out for my budget. i hunt local deer and turkey and PIGS.
you may like riding a horse for hours opr fling in some rickety piper cub to bigbear-freezeyobooty-island. you may get a thrill outa shooting some poor forked horn 90lb buck from 6000 yards away. thats your right.
BUT. for my money there is NUTHIN (and the rock means nuthin) like putting cold steel or hot unjacket lead thru a bigpig.
yes sir. call it the poor mans moose.
if you have never tried it you should. there is nothing like standing on flat groud 25 yards or less away from 300 lbs of pissed off boar who may run in any direction at any moment shot or not.
year round season.
no bag limit.
sausage? GOOOOOD
bacon?GOOOOD
slow grilled honey basted tenderloins over applewood charcoal?

need i say... GOOOOOOD!

LOL!

I have always wanted to hunt wild boar, just like they did in the days of old. But my wife took exception to me fashioning my own Boar Spear.

So, a gun will have to do.

They used to have wild pigs on Catalina Island off the coast of **********... Anyone know if they still do?

I will have to agree with ou on pig hunting. Nothing beats the thrill of the dogs for howl on a early morning, or the squeal of a pig bayed up!! For me the best part of hunting pigs is with dogs. Just to watch the dogs work a scent trail or corner that pig, I get all worked-up. I hunt private land in northern california and the pigs seem to be everywhere, but disappear in a instant. It is awesome.

Nope... Catalina Island Conservancy has stopped all Pig and Goat hunting on the island and now Federal Biologists are hired to do the hunting...

Sounds like fun, is there any pig hunting out my way (the east)?

Anything within 1200 miles of New York would be great :p I don't mind excessive drives.

Last spring, a friend and I drove down to the Florida keys and lived out of the car for a week to get some fishing in before it even thawed back home. Can't stop the bug once it hits you.

Sounds great! Are there any outfitters that can fly me in, provide me with gourmet meals and a personal valet? Also, I don't want to 'hunt' a pig, I just want them to take me to one so I can shoot it.

I'm not a pig hunter....I'm a pig killer.

Nasty little varmints that should be eradicated from the face of the earth. I take great joy in killing pigs, not for the thrill of the hunt, but for the primal blood lust of killing. (well.....that and knowing that at least one more pig won't be tearing up my pastures)

Feral hogs are very prolific, love to tear up land, fences and other improvements. I will miss when they are gone as I will not have a good source for target practice anymore, but will still rejoice in their departure from the earth.

Good news, I am a professional exterminator...usually charge $1,000 per pig but am having a special this year only. I'll kill as many pigs as I can in a week and it won't cost you anything! Just mention coupon code "MAKIN BACON'.

Just got back from an extended weekend hunt for pig. Am making a roast right now, and wife is getting out the grinder: we're makin' sausage.

Yum.

The neat thing about pig, in Texas at least, is that you can hunt them in a variety of ways. Night hunt? Sure. Bait? Sure. Handgun hunt? You bet. Big bore rifle? Sure, why not? Varmint rifle? Sure, if you can hold a tight bead. I went down with every intention of finally blooding my Springfield .35 Whelen, and ended up taking one with a single shot from a light varmint rifle.

Hm. I think I'll start a new thread on it, with pics.

Got my first hog when I was 15, been doing it ever since! Started out with a rifle but I've been using blades and handguns lately. Still use a rifle every now and then too.

Is there any decent place within driving distance of Minnesota that a guy could put together a fair hog hunt? It seems like the problem places are way too far, and the closer areas want a fee for a maybe bacon.

I'm going out as soon as school lets out for summer (I'm a teacher) Then I'm going again in July when the barley harvest is in full swing. There will be hundreds of hogs gathering and I'm a-gonna git me some...

Well pig hunters here's what happened in Germany recently. An elderly couple were taking a nap when a wild boar smashed through a window and door and ended up in the bed with the couple. Then it took off.Saw that on the ESPN website. The bacon comes right to you, try it.
