I rec'd a Hungarian Mosin M44 from Oleg for Christmas - I've always wanted one ever since I got my hands on my brother's a few years ago. They're incredibly fun to shoot and quite accurate, and it comes equipped with a sharp pointy thing!

Carbines are just so much fun (and runt sized)!

And here's the Mosin with my present from dad, an adorable Martini Cadet in .32-20, and my self-present, a Walther P1.

Of all my Mosins, my Hungarian M44 is my favorite. Shoots under 2 inches at 100yrds, and best yet has some poor foot soldier's initials carved into the stock. Sure wish I had a Martini and a Walther to go with it tho'

Is the front sight aligned right? The center marks dont line up. It might be the angle of the photo.

M2HMGHB,

Looks like the front sight has been drifted for windage adjustment. Mine wasn't centered when I got my M44.

Nice gun, nice pics...

I got a Polish Carbine just before Christmas but Oleg hasn't shown up in Indy to take any stylish pics of mine so this is the best I could muster...

Don't look now, but I think someone put a gun on the end of your knife.

:D

Good luck with it, they are alot of fun.

If it's from Hungary, it's tough. My neighbors survived the Holocaust as children in Hungary, fought to help establish Israel in the late 40's as teenagers and now thrive here after miraculously meeting in NYC and finding out their lives paralleled each other.

This rifle could serve many purposes from plinking, to whitetail, to the preservation of life.

A pretty smile. But that serious, gun-handling, through the sights, bring it on look! <shiver> I wonder if Oleg ever gets that look? I'm twice her weight and if she gave ME that "look", I'd run screaming into the night!:uhoh:

I haven't given Oleg that look, but I've given it to other people. :p In return, I get: "Eep! Small Angry Chihuahua Alert!"

The Mosin M44 is my choice as a truck gun (I can't exactly say "trunk gun" because I don't have a trunk!) It's always nice to have some kind of long arm just in case .

I chose the Mosin because of:
- durability
- dependability
- simplicity
- accuracy
- my overall ability to wield it well (alot of rifles are too long and heavy to fire offhand well without being wobbly)
- the bolt action isn't as likely to fail me coming out from long-term storage (especially in cold winter months)
- penetration & stopping power
- I can't accidentally magically disassemble it like I do with an M1 Carbine & M1A (see Oleg's thread in this forum)
- economy - I'm going to feel bad if it's stolen from my vehicle, but it's not like it cost an arm and a leg, either.
- Hey, it's got a sharp pointy thing.

The Mosin has a few burrs in the chamber, causing cartridges to fail to extract smoothly - I practically need a hammmer to make the bolt work. It's going to be fixed before it's offically my truck gun. Most Mosins I've shot have had this super-stiff bolt problem.

Maybe a small angry Chihuahua with a murderous look in it's eyes! A Chihuahua is the only type of dog that ever bit me. Then the damn thing wouldn't let go! I ran around trying to shake it off my hand while everyone else at the party rolled on the floor with laughter!

P.S. Beware of small things with mean looks. You'll remain far less injured that way.

Moisins are good rifles....have you tried out an Enfield yet?

There are some "Tanker" Enfields that were made out of No.4 Mk.1 Rifles...
http://www.navyarmsmsd.com/html/item.cgi?108

Or you could try out a "Tanker" made out of a No.1 MkIII Enfield

They are short stubby little fellows that pack a bit of a punch along with 10 round detachable magazines..

This rifles cock on closing and have a VERY FAST handling Action..
They also have the charging guide milled into the receiver.
You can also get an Ishapore "Jungle carbine or Tanker" these are chambered in .308

Put a red dot or holoscope on the receiver and you are set in terms of a trunk gun..

Oh yes..they are also very cheap..

I would say Oleg is a very fortunate young man.A woman like that deserves all the firearms she wants. And take that as a compliment Oleg. She needs to be the main focus of your pictures about shooting/women shooting.Small and petite with a handload of guns.It conveys very nicely.
Runt, hope you enjoy shooting the new rifles.Congrats.;)
