Anyone Else CCW a full size?

January 4, 2003, 05:39 PM
Just curious. My carry weapon is a Glock-21 with an inside-the-pant holster. It took some getting used to compared to the Taurus PT-145 (traded in) but it's comfortable to wear now. It dosn't even print on me.

How about it?

I have often carried a goverment model (many years) but my perception of threat in my area and my lifestyle has me just carrying a MK9 now. I still love my goverment models and shoot them often. I guess it wouldn't be any more of an inconvienance to contiue to carry them, I guess I am not so sure why I switched.

Yes. Biggest so far is Glock 34. Browning HPs and 1911s also get carried.

I carry my S&W 625 45 colt in a uncle mikes nylon IWB,it took awhile to adjust to it but it"s 2nd nature now.

I've been known to carry a Smith & Wesson Model 19 4" in a horizontal shoulder holster.

January 4, 2003, 07:49 PM
Carry list:

EAA Witness (3) = 9x19, 9x21, 38 Super, 40 S&W, 41AE, 45 ACP
KGP-141 (2)
Redhawk 5.5" (3) = 41 Mag, 44 Mag, 45 LC
Redhawk 7.5" = 357 Mag
S&W M38 (when the wife lets me)
Caspian 1911 = 45 ACP
"always" (2) = 22LR

And a new Caspian 38 Super comp'ed hi-cap.....................soon. Mags need tuning, and while I'll wear it 'bald' it really needs some (iron) sights.

Just me.

Sure, the key is a good holster and belt.

January 4, 2003, 10:33 PM
I won't have any bones about carrying my 3" 629 after I get a good holster for it...

I am also considering full-size 1911 carry.

Did I mention that I am a mere 5'9" and 155lbs...

January 4, 2003, 11:51 PM
Glock 17.

January 4, 2003, 11:55 PM
I guess ''full size'' means non ''mouse gun''??:)

Well ... during well clothed months I favor my P95 9mm (in sho rig) .... although I do carry a FEG (HP clone) instead, at times, as that is slimmer. However, I have never been that keen on carrying ''cocked and locked'' ... and so favor the D/A more.

In summer ... whole new ball game!! Then it becomes my M85 Taurus 38spl snubby .. on the hip.

I have yet to get a 1911 and would favor I think a Kahr for size reduction in that cal, or maybe one of the other ''compacts''.

One thing about polymers . does save some weight!!

Beretta 92FS 16rds fanny pack.

Its my work gun. :)

Lots do, but I don't.

A big gun demands too much of my attention -- not because of being uncomfortable or anything, but just because I'm "too aware" of it. In meetings, etc., it's just too distracting. I like my carry guns to be ones I can ignore completely.

I use a P-11 as my Primary concealed pistol. But when I'm taking the Hi-Power (clone) to the range, I've been known to carry it concealed.

Carried the Hi-Power for a while before the P-11 came along. The right wardrobe makes it easy, even in summer. See my thread on CCW tricks.

The main reason I switched to the P-11 was comfort. It is just a tad more comfortable after many hours than the Hi-Power. I think if I were to spring for a first-class holster for the HP, it may be just as comfortable.

Colt Goldcup or Colt LW Commander in IWB holster. Sometimes both :)

January 5, 2003, 01:56 AM
I carried a Ruger P-94 before I sold it to buy my Springfield XD40, which I also plan on CCW'ing. I sometimes carry a Taurus PT-140, which I shoot about as well as the XD, but full-size pistols are more comforting for me for some reason--not to mention being more comfortable to shoot.

I once sat through an hour meeting with a decidedly anti-gun local politician who represents my county district. I think at the time I was wearing my 2.5" Model 19 in a shoulder holster.

The entire time I was thinking "He'd probably crap if he knew I had a gun on me right now..."

He'd probably drop an even bigger brick if he knew his one of his chief assistants carried a Detective Special...

Full size Kimber. Nothing feels better!

January 5, 2003, 04:48 AM
I occassionally carry my USP9 full size in an Uncle Mike's size 15 IWB holster. Would carry more often should I find a better rig...

Most of the time, I carry it in a convertible fanny/shoulder bag. Much less conspicuous. :D

Anyone Else CCW a full size?

Yup. I tote a full-sized 1911 regularly, and I've added the SIG P226 to my carry rotation again recently. Both guns ride in Galco Summer Comfort IWB holsters without concealment or comfort problems. A good holster and belt combo is the key.

January 5, 2003, 10:00 AM
I have carried my Ruger KGP-141 without any problems. As soon as I get my Don Hume IWB holster for my Ruger P90, thats what I will be carrying.

My full sized USP .45 is usually riding my hip when I'm out in public. As others have mentioned, a good belt and holster go a LONG way towards making it comfortable.

For the times I don't feel like getting dressed up for a quick trip to the store (wearing sweats or something else w/o belt loops) my KelTec P-11 works great for that.

Greeting's To All-

Yes Sir, I CCW a full size .45 caliber SIG-Sauer P220A.
Been toting one of these on and off duty since the summer
of 1988; without any problems what so ever!

Best Wishes,
Ala Dan, N.R.A. Life Member

I carry a Gov't size CQB all the time.

January 5, 2003, 09:27 PM
I carried a SIG P226 for years in a Kramer Thompson Perfectionist IWB, then I carried a SIG P229 in a Kramer IWB #2 for about 5 more years, now I carry a SIG P230 in a Kramer IWB 1 1/2 IWB. I have taken to lighter guns as I get older. In case you didn't notice all my holsters are Kramer. I think they are the best. I stay with an IWB because in Florida it is a light clothing area. :)

January 5, 2003, 09:46 PM
Yep.. I carried a full sized 1911 for several years. Occasionally I would carry a G17. However, I just switched to a Ruger SP101 .357 2 1/4" barrel. Carrying a full sized sidearm absolutely CAN be done successfully. However like someone mentioned, I got tired of noticing it. When on duty, I have to carry full sized (SIG) and an assortment of web gear etc., on my off days it's nice to feel like I'm off. Good shooting!

January 5, 2003, 10:09 PM
Since 1972. The pieces varied over the first few years; LW Commander, M28 S&W, M19 S&W, and Ruger DA 4" .357 since 1980. Not a problem in proper leather and I have never been 'made'.

When things get 'interesting' the big gun is much more comforting for the power, controllability, and familiarity.

January 5, 2003, 11:59 PM

Unless you consider my everyday gun (2.5" L-frame) to be a full-size. ;)

January 6, 2003, 01:51 AM

January 7, 2003, 05:24 AM
I know I had posted that I am waiting for my Don Hume IWB for my Ruger P90, but for the last couple of days I have ben carrying it in a Fobus paddle holster. No problems.

January 7, 2003, 11:32 PM
I carry a full sized 1911. To be more specific it is a Kimber Custom, and I carry it IWB. It has gotten to the point that is comfortable and doesn't print.

January 7, 2003, 11:40 PM
ASA I can find a low riding(which I prefer) IWB for my G20, that's the CCW I'll most likely to be using.

What IWB are you using for your G21?

As for now, the CCw is usually from this list:
S&W 1066
Sig P229(.357Sig)
Beretta 8045F

January 8, 2003, 01:30 AM
I also carried a G21 in an IWB holster for 2 years. I now carry a Beretta Brig. FS 9mm in my BladeTech IWB. Nice...:D

January 8, 2003, 06:13 AM
Yep I carry a CZ85B

Stay Safe ;)

January 8, 2003, 09:29 AM
Have at one time or another carried:

1911, HP, CZ75, G34, S&W610, 625 Mtn gun, S&W1076/1026

Pretty much carry a full size exclusively though I have flirted with a G29/G30 from time to time.

January 8, 2003, 10:29 AM
Sig 226 in a High Noon Softie. I have no problem if I wear anything even remotely loose. I pay attention when I sit down as it tends to push the gun back at an angle a little more , but that's it.

A 1911 IWB is no big deal with a strong belt and a good holster... flat is where it is at. :D

January 8, 2003, 12:21 PM
It's one of those generic "reversible" nylon kind with the spare mag holder in front. The name escapes me but it cost around $20. I sometimes wear it on the belt but dont like the amount of play in the belt loop.

January 8, 2003, 01:30 PM
I carry a CZ-75 in either a Blade-Tech belt rig or a Comp-Tac Ghurka IWB. It can be done, just expect to have to make some dress alterations. Having an easier-to-shoot gun makes it worth it, for me at least.
