Some of the members post their photo directly in the meassage box.
I assume that is permitted.
How is that done?

See "Adding Images" on this page (http://www.thehighroad.org/misc.php?s=&action=bbcode) from the FAQ section.

The image must be uploaded to a linkable site. Usually your own ISP gives members some storage space to use for just that purpose, check with them. If you have uploaded the image to THR (as I see you did with your revolver pic), use the 'properties' (right mouse click while the pointer is hovering over the pic) of the pic to find the URL of the image to use with the image tags. Using an attachment has to be done in two steps: first attach the image and submit the message, then edit the message and add the image tags and URL from the properties.

The size of an external image you link to is not restricted, but there is a practical and a 'friendly' limit to it. I can't give you a size in K Bytes since there are so many variables, but if the image is overly large, it causes the image to overflow the page and it has an annoying side effect of taking a long time to load for those with dial-up connections. Please keep that in mind when linking an image. I wish everyone would.

If you have any additional questions, don't hesitate to come back here and ask.

Well ok, re-read the very sentence in my post above. Click on the link called "this page" in that post. I'm not sure how to better explain the URL part than I did in the second paragraph.
