I’m looking to buy a handgun for personal defense, and at a local pawn shop I found a Taurus model PT945 chambered in .45 ACP. I haven’t heard too much about the Taurus line of handguns, and would greatly appreciate any information about them.

Thank You

A bit of a thread here

It may help or it may not.

I love mine (after a couple of others just ahead of it)

I would not hesitate to buy another, but I bought mine way before the locking device was added. YMMV

Adios

I've had mine for about a year and haven't had a problem so far. Mine is blue and I bought a Hogue slip on grip, and it fits my hand like a glove. It's my main carry when my mode of dress allows it. I'm a lefty and I like the ambidextrous safety/decocker.

Get one....great handgun. The ONLY bad thing Ive heard about them and seen it also...is from guys with very "THICK and LARGE" hands getting bitten by the hammer....I was bitten....by the bug to get one.
They are comfy, accurate, recoil very mildly for a 45 and have the best safety available....IMO.
Ive had the 940 and 911...the med. framed guns...same mechanics as the 945...just smaller.

Shoot well

I bought one in stainless steel about 18 months ago and really like it. It's recently started to have failure to extract problems that I can't pin down. Thorough cleaning, chamber honing, and a new extractor and spring haven't cleared it up but I'm still working on it. I'm planning on testing different brands of new ammo first chance I get as all I've shot through it lately have been reloads. A good friend has one like mine and has had zero problems with it. Go figure.

Stay safe.

I had one I let a friend talk me out of, but it was a good gun (he still has it). I had the blued model and it ate everything I feed it (ball, HP) All in all I probably shouldn't have sold it.
