I don't see how this is beneficial when OSHA has a comment period open on this proposed reg change that provides a mechanism for technical comment that anyone can employ. We already have the ability to "comment" to our congress critters and to the head of OSHA.

Polls like this are beneficial when there's no ready means of making our voice heard. When there's already an invitation to comment they distract people from learning about the available methods.

I agree with hso, I think. When there are no other effective means to register one's beliefs or opinions about a matter, I'm willing to sign a petition, even one like this one that doesn't quite express the matter the way I would. But with a comment period like we have here, where anybody can file comments, I'd rather file my own comments than sign a petition that doesn't express my view quite right. Where they lost me was this final sentence:We further demand that OSHA cease and desist from any further considerations of passing the proposed regulations of Docket No. OSHA-2007-0032To demand that someone, or a government body, not even consider something is the antithesis of freedom of speech. They should have asked, rather, that the regulations not be promulgated without correcting them for the defects that would cause the harm the petition alleges.

Comment session closed July 12.

I posted the petition link July 14.

Today is July 15.

How much longer after the comment period should we wait?

How perfectly PC must we be in our petitions to government?

Just wondering, here.

This is incorrect. The comment period was extended to September 10, 2007.

As you see they extended the comment period on July 9 for another 60 days to Sept. 10. This is the standard approach taken with OSHA when serious issues are raised with a proposed regulation. This allows for more input from businesses and business groups.

And there's nothing wrong with petitions as a means of activism as long as they are meaningful and accurate enough to get our support.

I missed the info about the extension. Thank you.

No problem.

Heck, even with the extension we need to still voice our concerns to our congress critters and the appointed heads of the agencies.
