Mr. Nolden, perhaps you might be able and willing to help me. Romulus suggested you were the right person if there is one. I have just been given a Remington Model 12-A .22 cal. pump rifle. It was pretty cruddy. I broke it down, Not too difficult since it is made to be carried broken down in a nice small package. While cleaning it, the "action block" (that is my name for the piece that slides into the barrel assembly and is locked in by the trigger/stock assembly) dislodged itself, apparently because that is how you break it down. I can't get it back in correctly, hence the rifle either will not go back together, barrel/pump to trigger/stock or if I get it together, the block wedges incorrectly by tipping down in front (toward the barrel). I really wonder if I did something stupid and do not remember or if there is a trick. Remington is no help. Your help or comment would be very much appreciated as I now have a clean treasure of an old .22 that will fit beautifully into my backpack, if I can figure out how to get the three parts back together. Please and thank you.

I apologize for the delay. Had some difficulty finding the information. I just happen to find it in the Rifleman from a long time ago. I have sent by separate email, the information that I have.

I have tried on several occasions to email you the information, however, there must be a firewall or something on your address. It will not send to that address.

If you have another email address, I will try and send it there.

Thank you folks who were able to respond to my request for help. You have rewarded my effort with your own and it solves the problem. Now, if I can just use enough of my work time to learn to work with this forum, I will be happy and a whole lot more functional. Of course, I'd rather be out in the desert shooting my newly restored rifle. Thank you again.

I am having the same problem that a previous member had trying to get the bolt assembly/firing pin properly back into my rifle after breaking it down. I am not sure if I have something missing or simply do not know how to install the part. Or if something is broke.

Also where is the Model number on this gun or the serial number. On the under side of the barrel is R.W.888; is that the serial number?

Thanks in advance.

turn the receiver/barrel upside down. see the slot milled into the inside of the top of the receiver? with the slide forward drop the properly oriented bolt into the rear of the slot. now cycle the slide rearward until it stops. see the little button directly behind the forearm wood? press it in and it will allow the slide to move back another 1/8" or so. now push the bolt forward with your finger.

to disassemble, with the action upside down, cycle the slide rearward, push the little button to get the last bit of travel. when you cycle the slide forward the bolt should remain in the slot in the receiver. you might need to give it a jiggle to get the bolt to disengage

the weapon has no model # on it. mine has the 'rw' but my sn is in the 251,000 range. remington's website has date of manufacture info if you're interested

I disassembled mine and I can't figure out where the "retainer" goes. Can anyone help me?

micah_johnson_92, maybe looking an exploded view of a Remington Model 12 would help.
