I contacted a class III dealer in my town and he said he'd charge $100 for the transaction of arranging for me to buy a pistol suppressor. Is that a fair fee?

I'm an FFL and I have two tiers of pricing.

NFA Signature - $200
NFA Trust - $100

NOTE: The above only applies to items that you do not purchase from me. I have no problem doing a transfer for any item, I just don't want anyone getting the idea that if you buy a supressor from me there is another $200 on top of your tax stamp!

The reason is that going the signature route is substantially more paperwork in my area than I'd like it to be so my time spent on a signature transfer is about 3 hours, compared to a trust transfer which I should be able to get done in 1 hour flat.

I'd say $100 is fair if the dealer is offering to get you a signature.

Yes, I think that's a fair fee.

A $100 transfer fee is pretty average for an NFA transfer.

I've never heard of a dealer getting a signature. I went to my local sheriff's office myself.

$100 for machine guns, $50 for suppressor is pretty common. Unless you buy the suppressor from the dealer - then there should be ZERO transfer fee. I know for a fact that if a dealer sells 2 AAC cans it pays for the SOT for the year.

I've also never heard of a dealer having to get a signature. That's done by the buyer before the paperwork goes to ATF.

We charge $5 for Title I transfers, $25 for Title II transfers.

^ That's a fantastic price on both of those.

I checked three different SOT's in my area, range was $75 to $300.
