Scmhitt Rubin rifle question

A friend of mine has been given a straight pull bolt rifle. The only markings on the rifle, besides the matching serial numbers, are what is apparently a manufacturing symbol that looks like a combination of a backwards B and a normal P. On the barrel it has 308 WIN stamped on it. The rifle doesn't have the full length wood stock as a normal schmitt rubin has. Instead it has a fairly open barrel like you would see on a modern sporting rifle. My friend believes that this could be a cadet or calvary model of the K 31 but we haven't been able to find any information on the markings anywhere.

Well, the fact that it has .308 marked on it to me says that it was one of the SRs that was imported in the 1950s and 1960s by any of a number of companies, including Hunter's Lodge, and rechambered. The stock was very likely cut down at that time.

Mike is correct is his estimation, and here is some interesting trivia that may put some additional light on the subject

Magazines can be had. But the cost is pretty absurd. if you need one you need one. But, for the price of having a couple laying around you could just get another rifle.

You probably already know this, but here is the place to go for info on stuff like this: http://pub125.ezboard.com/fcollectorguns35625frm1

Magazines arn't easy to find, but there are some out there. I have even read of a Japanese company that manufactured replacement magazines for the K31. That Swiss Rifle board is the place to look for magazine information also.

Looking at that old advertizement i can see that things havent changed that much. 180 rounds of GP-11 was STILL the same price as the rifle even when the rifles ran $15. I guess its always been a reloaders proposition.
