Condor makes value-priced knives and outdoor tools in El Salvador. Steel used is 1075 or 420 stainless. Not "premium" steels, but inexpensive steels that will take an acceptable level of sharpness, hold it reasonably well, and resist chipping more than some more expensive steels.

Here I'm holding the Thai Enep, designed by Joe Flowers, who has designed a lot of recent Condor stuff. I handled several of his knives, and they have intelligently designed handles and good blade shapes.

Still holding the Enep. This is a very "size efficient" design. It's fairly light at 1.3 lbs for a 17 1/2" OAL knife, but still heavy enough to get some momentum and chop through brush. The thinner, longer machete version can be seen in the background. It also felt very nice. :)

Bushcraft style knives have been very popular lately, and Condor is offering several different versions.

If you need a modern gladius, and don't want to break the bank: 23" OAL Thunderhead machete and 18" OAL Combat machete.

Not pictured, but also quite well designed (and reminiscent of some Blade cutting competition knives I've seen), I really liked Condor's Speed Bowie, which is 16 1/4" OAL.
