Chris and I stopped by both of the Vortex booths. We should have some info coming up soon.

Unfortunately, I didn't take any photos. :-/

My intention is to get one of the new ones. I have been looking and them and a friend from a local swat team told me that some LEO's are starting to use them with great results.

I have other good ones but I wanted to try something different for a new tac. rifle I got. I have been looking at this one....

Keep me posted if you find out anything.
Thanks

My initial impressions of the Vortex Viper PST line:

- Seemingly well-constructed, although this is tough to confirm through a cursory external evaluation.
- No obvious problems with the glass, no chromatic aberration or aspherity that I could detect.
- The illumination is not useful during daylight.
- The available reticle options seem well thought out.

Any particular questions I could answer?

Chris Rhines,
Many thanks for your kind reply.
As you said the reticules seem pretty well thought out. I was wondering if someone had already worked out some mapping of the reticle's estimates with the actuals in the field and ballistics charts.
Where are they manufactured?
Cheers.

1stmarine - No field data on the reticles to report yet. If I do get a demo unit, that'll be one of the first things I do.

I think that the Viper PST line is made in China. Don't quote me on that - I didn't ask the Vortex rep and may well be misremembering.

I have a Vortex Diamondback and I love it. Furthermore, my dad just purchased some Vortex binoculars although we have yet to take delivery of them.

I have some Vortex binoculars and they are FANTASTIC. I love them. The only binocs I've used that don't have black 'flashes' everywhere.

They are made in the Philippines using Japanese glass. The vortex stuff is pretty high quality for the price. The few I have seen have all had clear glass and were built solid. They do not have the glass the quality of $3k+ Zeiss tacticals but for under $1k they can not be beat. Plus, you can not beat the Vortex warranty... It breaks they fix it no questions asked!

COLOSHOOTR,
Many thanks. Philippines is good. Japanese glass is even better.
I have a few Nikon monarch and they have amazing glass, eye relieve and quality although the reticules need more work to get the shots right.
I believe also made in the Philipines with Japanese glass. Some US glass too as optics companies shared semi finished inventory.

I don't have anything against oriental people and their manufacturing folks but I will simply not buy anything made in china. My granpa and my father both fought the communist and I did follow their footsteps and will not buy anything from a nation that A) Are a communist regime. B) they harbor terrorists.
Folks complain the government is taking the jobs to china and it is really us doing it. Sometimes I do not have an option when I look very sadly in the bottom a tag saying made in china, and this is the sad part.
Even if the laws allow imports of Assault Carbines and we could get a fully funcitonal AR made in china for $100 I would not buy it. I do not care.
With every dollar we save in chinese products one more dollar towards the future misery of our children. You will never ever find me at walmart but anyway this is a different story.

Anyway this looks very promising and like a nice addition to my Leupold and Nikon collection. I also have some Burris tac.ones and like them too but it seems that this Vortex could be a superb option for long range.

A friend from a local swat team pointed me to them and I am going to get one after a little more research about exactly what model and features I want.

Cheers.
