I live on the left coast, so I can only be there in spirit.

Seriously folks, this is a great organization to support. Friends of N.R.A. is the fundraising arm of the N.R.A. Foundation.

Each year dedicated volunteers raise money to help fund grants to sportsmen's clubs, American Legion/V.F.W., Scouting, and other organizations that support passing on our uniquely American heritage of firearms ownership and use.

Our local sportsmen's club has recieved 9,100 dollars in the last four years from F.O.N.R.A.

This money allowed us to purchase a variety of firearms that fit our students. We have shooting mats, ear/eye protection, shot timers, BeamHit indoor laser targets for rifle/pistol, and this year we are going to by the remaining rifles that we need to completely outfit our youth rifle team.

Featured this year will be the Special Engraved 2004 Gun of the Year, the Remington 572BDL DeluxeFieldmater .22.(Numbered between 001-1000) This is a very special rifle that will no doubt be cherished by serious Remington collectors. Remington agreed to build this model 572 in its original configuration. Remington tooled up to make one last "old model" style 572, and when these 1,000 engraved rifles are gone, that's all there will ever be.

Without F.O.N.R.A.s help, our local N.R.A. instructors group would still teach - we're committed - but with their help we are able to make our student's experience a really fun, comfortable, and sucessful one.

Here are some of the kids at our N.R.A. Shooting Sports Camp to prove it.

Can't make the east coast event, but I will be at the SW Washington
"Friends of NRA" event, at a table of 10, on Saturday, April 3, 2004, Jantzen Beach Doubletree Hotel.

Guest speaker this year will be Craig Sandler, NRA's Executive Director of General Operations.

Went last year. It was a blast. Food was pretty good, too. :)

Have fun!!!

Well folks the dinner went quite well. We had about 160 people all total. Not too shabby for the smallest county in New York State.

Tonights honoree was Bob Shields who was with the 82nd Airborne during WW II. Bob was one of the men who parachuted into Ste. Marigliese as seen in the movie "The Longest Day". Remember the Red Buttons character who got stuck on the church bell tower? Well that was Bob Shield's buddy. Bob escaped from captivity 24 hours later after being beaten to a pulp by the Germans. He went on to become a Major and participated in the Bulge. Bob has been heavily invoved with the wildlife council and the DEC. He was with the Rockland County Sheriff's Department for over 50 years. He helped found the United Sportsmen of Rockland and the list goes on and on. A more decent and humble man you will never meet. It was a privelege this evening just to shake his hand.

Starting next week we start the work for next years dinner. Maybe some of you folks can stop in. Thank you!
