SC THR shoot

May 5, 2004, 11:37 PM
OK, I guess it's about time for a tenth attempt at getting some SC THRers together. My semester is done as of 10am tomorrow morning, so I'll be free most afternoons during the week and almost all weekends.

MCRC (Columbia area) is an excellent facility and there are enough members here to bring in most people that are likely to show up that are not members. Indian Creek is another possibility (near Whitmire). IC is a public range. I don't have a problem driving to other places, but those two ranges are centrally located in the state.

How 'bout Saturday, May 15th?

I'd love to to it...I've tried to start one of these myself. Now I have be be a party pooper. Trrops in cycle, Sundays are my only day off, until Memorial Day weekend.

Memorial Day shoot maybe?

May 6, 2004, 09:18 AM
However, on May 15th I have two weddings to attend..... :barf:

May 6, 2004, 12:01 PM
I just threw out a date - as I said, I'm open for just about any time. Sunday would be fine with me. I could even go this weekend. Only thing is, the longer we wait the hotter it gets :(

May 6, 2004, 06:12 PM
Forecast for this weekend is in the 90s mean it gets hotter here? :uhoh:

J/K...I've been at Ft Benning, GA for an entire summer, and spent one August at Ft Irwin in the Mojave (can you say 125 in the shade?). I can deal with heat. Does cut down on the enjoyment factor a good bit though.

May 9, 2004, 01:09 PM
Sunday, May 16?

May 9, 2004, 01:38 PM
How about early morning before it gets hot...that would probably work for me and my wife. Although one of us would have to stay with Langenator Jr (3 months) while the other shoots.

May 10, 2004, 12:40 AM
How early? College students are not known for their fondness of the morning.

May 10, 2004, 07:51 PM
Given the logistics of prepping myself, my wife, and Jr for movement, I'd say anything before 9:30 would be tough to achieve.

I wouldn't know much about college students and late mornings. I was in ROTC and got up early most days. Occassionaly, I would be done with class for the day before my roommate's first class.

May 10, 2004, 08:10 PM
10am sounds good to me.

Are Langenator and I the only motivated High Roaders, or have the rest of you heard some vile rumors or something?

May 11, 2004, 06:15 PM
10:00 am on sunday the 16th...sounds good.......i'm open to the next weekend if nobody can get togather for this one. The spartanburg IDPA shoot is on sat, or I would go then...PM me if/when it is a go.

PS: Run a thread on Glock Talk about a shoot......there a lot of SC guys over there.

May 11, 2004, 07:45 PM
Looks like I can do the 16th right now. Which range? MCRC?

May 12, 2004, 03:48 PM
MCRC would be the best, but we'll need some more members to get everyone in. Members can only take 4 guests on the weekends. I'll claim Langenator and his wife (I don't think Jr. counts), and I'll have at least one friend coming with me.

If we can't get enough members together, we'll have to go to Indian Creek. The logistics of MCRC are more complicated, but it's an awesome range (collection of ranges, really).

May 12, 2004, 03:49 PM
Lostdog - I'm not a member of Grock Talk. Anybody that is, feel free to post an invitation.

May 12, 2004, 03:55 PM
Well, I'd certainly be willing to come, and I expect my brother would come with me, but his membership to MCRC expired so I don't know about getting in there.

Anybody else out there wanna vouch for us?

May 12, 2004, 09:10 PM
Yowza - don't worry about it yet. Let's wait until Saturday so we'll have a better idea of how many people are going. Could be that a few more MCRC members wanna join in, in which case we can get in there. If not, I'll post directions to Indian Creek.

May 12, 2004, 09:32 PM
I'm going to have to pass this time around. I'm scheduled for a root canal on Monday, and right now I'm in too much pain to shoot.

May 13, 2004, 09:36 AM
Alright, that sounds good. I'll keep a close eye on this thread.

I've never been to Indian Creek. What's the range there like?

May 13, 2004, 10:56 AM

I'm an MCRC member, and Mrs L is on my membership. So I'm good for some guests as well.

May 13, 2004, 11:50 AM
Hey, I just saw this thanks to LiquidTension's signature line. I can't make it this time, but let me know next time and I'll definitely try to make it.

May 13, 2004, 08:48 PM
Although I don't reside in SC, I'm just across the Savannah River in Augusta GA. Would love to attend if you would e-mail particulars on when and where. Have some new toys and I am itching to play with them. Let me know.

Be well,

May 14, 2004, 01:50 AM
We still need some more MCRC members if we're gonna go there (I've got several people that may come). At this point it's still leaning toward Indian Creek.

May 14, 2004, 02:06 PM
I told my wife last night, and her first response was, "Cool!" (God I love that girl!), so I'll be there if it's at MCRC. Not sure on Indian Creek...where exactly is the place?

Question: I'm an MCRC member, and membership for the Mrs comes with would I be good for 8 guests, or only 4?

May 14, 2004, 04:35 PM
I think you're only good for 4, but you'd have to email Julie Hollings to be sure.

May 14, 2004, 04:36 PM
I'm not sure about how many guests can be brought in, but I was just looking at the MCRC calendar and they are having pistol and small bore rifle silhouette shoots beginning at 9:00 AM. I don't know if that would preclude us from using the other ranges, though.

May 14, 2004, 04:39 PM
Also, I just found this on the website:

17) GUESTS: Members may bring a maximum of 10 guests on weekdays & 4 guests on weekends to use the range. More may be brought only with the specific permission of the Executive Committee. Members are responsible for, & must DIRECTLY supervise, the use of the range by their guests. So, specific permission would be allowable if it can be gotten in time. Seems kind of doubtful this late, though.

May 14, 2004, 07:29 PM
I assume rifle siloutte shoots use the rifle bay...I've never done it. And Pistol silouette would use which bay, the GP I'd guess? That would leave the IDPA/IPSC area, the 2700 bay, and the plinking bay, I'm thinking.

Looks like I may have to spend some time loading tonight/tomorrow. But I'll bring at least one SKS anyway.

May 14, 2004, 07:49 PM
Actually there is a dedicated silhouette range that has metal rails at set distances on which you can place the targets. The pistol thing starts at 9:00 and the rifle comp. is at 12:00 so they're probably both on that range. So I guess it shouldn't be any problem for us to use any of the other ranges, but I don't really know the rules on what's allowable during a competition.

May 15, 2004, 01:27 AM
It's perfectly legit to use any ranges that aren't being used for matches.

What's the total so far? I've got myself and my brother for sure, but there may be as many as six others coming with me. That number will probably end up being 2, but there's always the chance of more.

How many guns are each of you guys bringing? I'll bring all of mine (about 10). Oh, I'll bring a dig camera as well...anybody else have one?

May 15, 2004, 09:38 AM
I'm planning on bringing my wife's SKS (yes, you read that right), her birthday present Kimber Ultra Carry, my Kimber, my carry Sig, one or both of my Mausers, and either another rifle or my shotgun.

I'm sure right now of just me and my wife. I'm trying to talk one of the XO's in my battalion to come and bring some of his toys.

We're still at MCRC, right?

May 15, 2004, 11:29 AM
Well, I asked my wife if she wanted to come but I don't think she's going to so it will probably just be me and my brother.

Between us we'll have an HK USC, a MAK-90, a Remington VLS, a CZ 452, a Walther P99, a Springfield Compact .45, a Ruger 22/45, a S&W 686, a CZ 75, a Walther P22, and maybe a couple of others. I'm really looking forward to it.

May 15, 2004, 01:13 PM
I don't think we'll be able to do MCRC at this point. Look at the list:

Me, Arkady (my brother)
Langenator and Mrs.
Yowza +1
Intrepid 9mm

That's seven right there. Lang is trying to get one more, and anywhere between 2 and 5 more might show up with me. I'm going to try to get an exact number today, and I'll post as soon as I know.

May 15, 2004, 02:11 PM
Not to pick nits, but I'm pretty sure my wife doesn't technically count as a guest. Now, if she was my girlfriend, she would. If I'm reading the rules correctly.

And the XO bailed. Too bad. He has a semi-auto RPK and a new SAR-2 that would have been fun.

May 15, 2004, 03:38 PM
Oh well. I've got an SAR1 you can shoot though :)

Two of my possibles just bailed. Here's my situation: Arkady and WingZero count as one of my guests, because WingZero won't get there until right after Arkady has to leave for work. One of my friends will be there with me, making 2. I still haven't heard from my buddy in Charleston that wanted to go, and another friend won't know until later tonight if he's gonna go. My dad wants to come but he said he'd sit this one out if it meant we could get everyone else in to MCRC.

I guess I'm the holdup on this one, sorry guys :( I'll let you know as soon as I do.

May 15, 2004, 05:20 PM
I'm good for your dad and at least one more, but I can only stay 2-3 hours. I go to the field at Oh-Dark-30 Monday, and have to go shopping.

May 15, 2004, 05:42 PM
C'mon Lang, don't be such a pansy! Even if you stayed until 2, you'd still have at least 3 hours for shopping. You're just trying to cover an early escape so you can run away from the embarassment of your shooting skillz, aren't you :neener:

If you take Intrepid, Yowza and his brother, I'll take Arkady/WingZero, my friend, and one more. I think my dad's gonna sit this one out.

May 15, 2004, 06:19 PM
Well, it sounds like things are getting worked out. The only other question I have is, do they leave the gate open during a competition? If they do, then I guess we won't have any problems getting in. If not, are we going to try to meet up somewhere before we get there?

One other question. Is anybody going to be able to bring a target stand? I don't have one, unfortunately.

May 15, 2004, 09:51 PM
Normally the gates are open during matches. I'll PM my cell number to those that have responded. I say we meet in the parking lot at 10:00am. Make it the far left of the parking lot. This'll help those that haven't been there before. When you drive through the gates, the lot is on the right (hard to miss it). Far left corner shouldn't have too many people there since the silhouette range is down to the right. I'll be driving a silver 2 dr '99 civic. I'll try to remember my Molon Labe hat as well.

Directions to the club can be found here (

Intrepid 9mm - take I20E, then hop on 26E (toward Charleston). Take the HWY 321 exit (last one before I77). Use the directions above for the last part of the journey.

I have 3 target stands and some other things to shoot as well. I hate beets. You'll understand tomorrow.

May 15, 2004, 10:19 PM
Actually, after 2-3 hours my supply of diapers and/or formula is likely to be exhausted the way my kid eats and does, um, other things. Not sure how he'll handle mid-day heat, either. But I'll hang as long as he can.

I'll have a black Dakota quad cab with a camper shell on the back, cute wife, baby, and a camo boonie hat.

May 15, 2004, 10:53 PM
I'll either be in a dark blue Audi A4 or a dark blue Subaru Impreza depending on who drives.

May 27, 2004, 03:32 PM
How come no one pointed me toward this thread earlier?? :D I hope it was a good meet.

If ya'll ever get together again, let me know. Columbia is at least a couple hour drive from me, but if there is a good chance of a good turnout and some interesting hardware, I'd be game on a weekend. This summer sometime would be best for me.

The spartanburg IDPA shoot is on sat...

Lostdog: I didn't know there was IDPA in Spartanburg. How does it work there? How would I go about getting involved with it?
