Duke and I were chatting this weekend and we were thinking about another camping trip in the San Luis Obispo area possibly in the National Forest Region.

It'll be an excuse to go buy some camping gear and burn some red meat!

Date: Sometime in the next few months :)

How far is the trail, and is it level and easy? I'm pretty bad at backpacking, but that could be pretty fun if my my lazy, fat ass can keep up.

Hey Wombat bring that smiling grill. We've got lots of digital film :)

Somewhere around SLO= Great for me, because It'll be easier for me to make it/ increases my probability of showing up (even if I DO manage to piss my parents off). Still, I'm definitely not closed to a trip more inland if that's what people like. It ain't THAT far from here. :)

Grill=mug= teeth. :)

Their isnt really too much of a deal with digital cameras. Skunk and I got our digital cameras around the same time and neither one of us have a shooting buddy locally. So when we hook up the shutters are a-blazing.

Get tired of shooting for the day....we pick up the cameras. Various locations in CA also give us a chance to shoot some different scenerios.

Hmmm... There's the Los Padres National Forest (http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/lospadres/index.html) near here...

And I'm assuming we can just shoot anywhere we want (except at people) in the National Forest, so that might be good... Camp 'n' Shoot.

Or, there's a few lake/recreation areas around here (like the campsite we stayed at last time).

We COULD do just a repeat of last time, but I like the idea of being able to do whatever we want, no ROs, etc.

The last time I got a fire permit was via a BLM ranger. She was doing booth duty at a Sportsmen Show over in Pleasanton, and I just filled out the form, took the mini-test and got the fire permit. Unfortunately, the fire permits have an expiration date, that seems to me a bit too short.

FIRE RESTRICTIONS NOW IN EFFECT

In response to increased fire danger, Los Padres National Forest officials imposed additional fire restrictions throughout the forest as of June 12.

Fire restrictions affect the use of campfires, stoves, smoking materials and internal combustion engines, and recreational target shooting. The restrictions will remain in effect until fire season ends, probably in late autumn.

Frohickey

"Now, folks, as we look over here to the doppler radar, you can really see the heavy government regulation jet stream, coming down from the north. Now if you look over here, that's going to combine with the annual fire danger drifting up from southern California, forming major piss clouds over the region of 45R, Combat-Wombat, Skunkabilly, and Average Guy's parade. Frohickey
August 24, 2004, 04:45 PM
What we need to find is a BLM ranger that likes to shoot with THRers.

The good thing is that since we would have BLM ranger representation, we should be fine, especially if he/she works in that area.
The bad thing is that since BLM ranger pay is so low, an off-duty BLM ranger is prolly doing security guard duty at a mall someplace in order to supplement his/her pay.

The BLM doesn't restrict AW's, there was an internal memo out covering this. I posted it here some time back, maybe someone can dig it up. Their stance was that if it was registered your good to go.

If you can find it, print it out and bring it with you whenever you shooting on BLM land. Show it to them if you ever get hassled, might help keep you out of trouble if you get one of those special people.
