Glad to see a new form. Never posted on TFL but I'm willing to give this site a try. If you have not visited Zion's Camp, you may want to give them a try.

Hi, every body and soul.
I'd appreciate greatly a URL for a post
explaining why the Firing Line is shutting/has shut
I've heard about it on AR-15 list,
which also mentioned a few others which shut down
(like shooters.com) implying that there is an epidemic
moving through the firearms community like a black death.

December 21, 2002, 10:02 PM
Hi, agricultural vessel - welcome to THR! (First time I get to say that... ain't it fun? :D )

Try here (http://www.thefiringline.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=146237). It's HUGE - 15 pages so far! Everyone (including yours truly) was pretty devastated by the news, but all of us wanted to thank Rich Lucibella for all he's done for the shooting world in general through TFL. This board is being set up, not so much as a "successor" to TFL - there can be only one! :D - but to carry forward the wonderful work begun there, and in time, I hope, to become just as good (if not better) in its own way.

December 22, 2002, 12:00 PM
As I understand it, this is a beta site. Will the same addy work for the final one, and will all of our logins work?

Lastly, are you going to do a gear section of any sort (holsters, vests ect.)?

December 22, 2002, 09:40 PM
Well, I made it! Nice to see so many old, familiar friends here. Feels like home already.

December 22, 2002, 10:50 PM
Welcome aboard! Nice to have a few friends here before the great rush begins... Just please don't tell others how to find us until we're ready for them! :D

This is nice, gonna stay around

Thanks Oleg and Runt

December 22, 2002, 11:05 PM
"Just please don't tell others how to find us until we're ready for them!"

Someone posted a link on TFL, but cannot recall who it was. It was buried amidst some other stuff and I just happened to click on it. I'll keep my lips zipped.

December 22, 2002, 11:12 PM
" I'd appreciate greatly a URL for a post
explaining why the Firing Line is shutting/has shut down."

Basically it seems that Rich was doing so much that he felt that he could not continue to do justice to running TFL. I think that it was a very hard decision for him and probably caused him a lot of anguish. You are free to read his message and see his own words.

December 22, 2002, 11:36 PM
A drink?

Now that this one's up & runnin', I might stop - again. ;)

December 22, 2002, 11:44 PM
Hi gang.
Where's the kitchen? <holding cardboard box of goodies>
Wow, nice !

December 22, 2002, 11:49 PM
So is THR officially up and running? I didn't see a post on TFL, but since I was one of the ones who got misdirected here by mistake a couple of days ago, I've been checking this URL on a regular basis.

I didn't post but a few times on TFL in the couple of years since I found it. I don't know that I'll post that much here either, but if THR is anything like TFL, I'll at least be a frequent lurker. I'm very greatful to Oleg and whoever else was involved in continuing the spirit of TFL!

December 23, 2002, 12:21 AM
yes mums the word

Thanks Oleg and runt

December 23, 2002, 01:13 AM
Hi, and welcome to your new Web home! The address www.thehighroad.org should be permanent. As for gear, see the "Firearm Accessories" forum. If the gear component grows to be bigger than the accessories, we'll look at dividing this into two separate forums. (Same situation with Handguns - we'll look at dividing it into Revolver and Semi-auto if demand warrants it.) In the beginning, we're looking to keep things as simple as possible.

December 23, 2002, 11:59 AM

If it gets to that point, I can say in all honesty that PvtPyle knows more about vests, webbing, LBEs, and that kind of thing than anybody else I have ever met. Just something to keep in mind.

Good to see you Pyle.

WOW! Looks great!

The new logo is really cool!

Excellent work Oleg!

Today is turning into a great day!

First, I GOT A JOB!, after being largely unemployed for 18 months (although its not the job I want or even in the same field as thejob I want - it is work and it will pay bills until I can get to where I want to be.)

Second, The High Road opened!

Thank you Oleg and Staff for all your hard work in making a new home for us.

This place will be great!

December 24, 2002, 01:57 PM
It does look great, but it's also great to be here! :D

December 24, 2002, 01:57 PM

TFL is a GREAT resource for archived information, just as it was a great place to hang out.

THR has a lot of promise as being TFL II, and I hope it will be as fun a place. Looks like it has all the capability to be! :)

December 24, 2002, 03:23 PM
Wow...great site...I feel SO much better now !:D

December 24, 2002, 03:24 PM
If this is a beta, it looks damned good to me.

One small thing, though, since I expect that this place'll heat up quickly, and while I don't always comment, I do read...

How about the highlight function on read threads?

As one gets older, and runs three or four background tasks, the mind, or the parts that are still functional and connected, slowly wind down...

December 24, 2002, 03:33 PM
Ahhh... so you guys were the special few that got here before the rest of us, eh?:D

cheers folks, glad to have a new place to come

December 24, 2002, 03:34 PM
Hi, guys (guys in a non-sexist way, of course). I'm new to the forum (and to all forums). I was a lurker @ TFL and picked up mucho info from some of the posts (many of them from members of this forum). I was appalled to see the closure announcement and linked to this site from there. I'll be picking brains as the need arises, so expect to be hearing from me.

By way of background info, I own the following:

Springfield Armory 1911a1 Mil-Spec .45
Ruger P90 .45
Ruger GP100 .357 Mag
Ruger SP101 .357 Mag
S&W 642 .38 spl
Beretta M21 .25ACP
Beretta M950 .25ACP
Beretta M950 .22 short
Ruger Single Six .22/ .22 Mag
Ruger Mark II Auto .22
S&W Model 1500 rifle .30-06
Marlin 336CS .30-30
Marlin 1894 .44 Mag
Marlin 1894 .357 Mag
Ruger 10-22 .22
Ithaca M37 16 gauge (my dad bought it when I was 1 yr old 1955)
Ranger o/u shotgun 20 gauge (my grandad's 1930's)
SKS (Chinese)

December 24, 2002, 03:36 PM
Greg L said what I was thinking.
I beleive the general consensus over at TFL was that Shiner Bock was the unofficial "Official" beer.
Hope the same goes here, got a fridge full.:D

December 24, 2002, 03:38 PM
Almost forgot, Merry Christmas to all (in an absolutely non politically correct way)!

December 24, 2002, 03:39 PM

"Go ahead, Frosty...tell the folks that you actually defended the Constitution on the ancient/pre-PC 'Prodigy'."

I don't know anyting about Prodigy, but I was almost banished from Compuserve for exposing the "mistakes" and bias of the CS Firearms Forum leader. Seems like he never met a lie about guns and gun owners that he did not like.

December 24, 2002, 03:57 PM
It's like Deja Vu.....

All over again

December 24, 2002, 03:57 PM
Hi, guys! It's so great to see all the old familiar screen names reappearing here so quickly... I've been keeping a close eye on user registrations, and in two hours we grew 110% - great stuff! If the server catches fire, you know whose fault it is... :p

I'm off to work now, so when I get back late tonight, I expect the place to be in party mode! :D

December 24, 2002, 04:03 PM
I'll bring some fire extinguishers just in case..:D

December 24, 2002, 04:04 PM
It is a joy to be a part of this fine re-united community. After all, the things that really matter are America and it's freedom, people and their goodness, and firearms and their intrinsic importance.

Just shipped in from TFL and am looking forward to the same level of intelligent (usually) discussion and debate. Oleg, many thanks for your efforts now and Rich's in the past.

Now, just a few questions to make everyone feel at home:

1. Are Glocks really better than 1911's?
2. Is it OK to buy an S&W now?
3. I traded my Randall for a Hi=Point. Good deal?
4. What's the best SHTF rifle: AK, AR, FAL, Hi-Point Carbine, Daisy?
5. What's the best .32 ACP load for taking pronghorn at 700 yds.?
6. I have to use a torch and dowel to drive the split cases out of the cracked cylinder of my bulging Rossi .38 spl. I'm driving 450 gr. Incaloy solids with 3.2 kilos of Blue Dot with a Claymore as a primer. Is this load too hot?
7. What the best IWB holster for my .454 Casull?

That's all for now. I'll officially submet more if things get too dull around here.
Thanks, again, Oleg.

December 24, 2002, 06:10 PM
I'm impressed! (And congrats on the job.)

This is great, Oleg and everyone else, thanks, you guys are the best!

December 24, 2002, 06:31 PM
1. Maybe...
2. Yes!
3. What's a Randall ?? :D
4. AK.. Well, I have to add, any HK 90 series.
5. :D LOL :D
6. Could be.
7. Wow! I have no idea..

:) :D ;)

December 24, 2002, 06:41 PM
1. Depends on what you mean by "better".
2. No. The Clinton agreement is still in place.
3. The Randall's undoubtedly prettier, but the Hi-Point's probably a better gun.
4. AR
5. HP stuffed with C4 and contact fuze, and fired from an altitude of 2100 feet above the pronghorn.
6. No, but the torch will ruin the finish.
7. A survival vest under a mu-mu.

December 24, 2002, 06:44 PM
Another "newbie" checking in. Hope everyone on THR has a wonderful Holiday Season and a terrific New Year!

Steve Smith
December 24, 2002, 06:49 PM
1. One is cocked, one is half-cocked. Both are dangerous! :D :D
2. Consult your ouija board
3. Randall knife or gun? Both exist! answer is the same, not that I think about it.
4. Daisy...its quieter!
5. 2 tons LOX
6. Each gun is a rule unto itself. Test carefully, check for signs of overpressure, and adjust from there. :D
7. I think Hunter makes one. Make sure you get the one you tie around your leg.

Hello TFL'ers!

Thanks for the new site Oleg and everyone else who worked to get it ready for the rest of us!

December 25, 2002, 12:51 AM
It truly feels like home here. This is great!

December 25, 2002, 01:09 AM
He certainly did. He made Christmas a happier time for all of us!

December 25, 2002, 01:11 AM
Nice to be here, Preacher. Giving us a place to go was, well, awfully nice of Oleg. I'll definately spread the word.

I don't know if THR will every get to the 18,000 members that TFL did, but that's okay. When it's smaller it feels more homey. Like an extended family (though I daresay I'm closer to a TFLer I know that I ever was to any of my relatives save my parents), you know?

And, like most families, the arguing and squabbling over in Legal and Political will soon begin. Taxes. Smith & Wesson/Ruger boycotts. Republicans. Libertarians. Drugs.

And not just there! AK vs. AR. 9mm vs. .45. Glock vs. 1911. 5.56 vs .308.

It's...colorful! :D

But, like my mother always used to tell me, it'd be a pretty boring world if everybody agreed!

Hello everyone. I found TFL just as it was reaching it's last days. I would have registered there but it seemed moot. So I am here now with all you folks that have been together for so long, and I am saying,,, hello!
I am The Joe America. From other forums, and the Joe America web magazine.( Now defunked.) Some of you know me, and some of you will. I have been fortunate enough to come across the works of Oleg Volk, and I have seen a master at work. I found him on TFL and and like the rest of you followed his link here. I am looking forward to being a participant on this forum. Thanks to Oleg for so many pictures, and starting this forum for a great bunch of folks.
Seasons greetings
Joe America[

December 25, 2002, 01:14 AM
Welcome! Come on in and set a spell. The folks are nice and the conversation is good!

December 25, 2002, 01:16 AM
I'm off to work now, so when I get back late tonight, I expect the place to be in party mode!

Uh oh...I think we got the egg noggs switched by "accident" again. I was wondering why mine just didn't have the same kick. I think I know who got the good stuff.:D

Just got back from work at the Prison and I was pleasantly surprised to see all this up and running. Thanks guys for all the hard work to make this possible.

Good SHooting

December 25, 2002, 01:21 AM

December 25, 2002, 02:02 AM
Hello to you, too!

I'm sure there's a story underlying your user name, or they must have been nearly out of vowels! :D

December 25, 2002, 02:03 AM
Howdy! Ain't it great!

December 25, 2002, 02:15 AM

December 25, 2002, 11:07 AM
Just kiddin. Just made it, having spent my Christmas in malaise on the couch with a fat belly and surrounded by toys and wrapping paper.

Glad to be here (by way of TFL of course). Hope this board lives up to it's predesessor, and if it doesn't then I hope it's a wild party of fightin and cussin - either way I'll hang out and enjoy the show. ;)

December 25, 2002, 11:14 AM

Present and accounted for...

December 25, 2002, 03:14 PM
Just found out about this site from somebody at Backwoods Home.

Allow me to introduce myself:
45 year old woman living in WA. Been a Second Amendment activist for about 8 years. Software test engineer. Libertarian. Own 4 pistols - 3 antique heirlooms and the one I use is a Colt .45 1911-A1. It's a little too big for me though. Would welcome any recommendations for a slightly smaller firearm.

Merry Christmas, pass the ammo and get back to work!

December 25, 2002, 03:34 PM

December 25, 2002, 11:29 PM
Hello All!
I've been lurking and learning on TFL for about 6 months now.
I'm just getting back into firearms and shooting after a 20 year recess. I forgot how much fun it can be.
I, as you all, was disappointed with the demise of TFL - the BEST firearms, RKBA forum on the web.
Thank you Oleg and the rest for resurrecting it in the form of TheHighRoad.
I'll attempt to post now, but I'd still rather read and learn rather than talk.
Thanks and a Merry Christmas to all!

Greetings from the Land of the Morning Calm...

I occasionally lurked at TFL, not even sure if I ever registered. Thought I'd actually make a post here.

One question: The "General Discussion" rules clearly states, "Must be firearm related" - yet it seems half of the posts are not. This board is too new for me to get a feel for things - but what exactly is considered, "firearms related?"

Happy Kwanzaa:rolleyes: !

December 26, 2002, 06:01 AM
Oh, yeah!

Same ol' family; brand new house!!:D

December 26, 2002, 07:57 AM

December 26, 2002, 12:41 PM
Hey, Fudgie Ghost checking in. Site and personnel look and feel familiar--and that's a good thing. Glad apathy does not rule among our group as it seems to do with so many today.

December 26, 2002, 01:22 PM
Hey, I made it! :D It was a long drive here, I think I'll take that drink now, TY! Is this a non-smoking site or is there freedom here? :D

It's sure good to so many have made the trip!

Glad to be here,
Marshall :) ;)

December 26, 2002, 02:04 PM
A new hello from Minnesota.

December 26, 2002, 02:07 PM
Geez - I stop monitoring the TFL board for a couple of days while celebrating Christmas, and look what happens!

There's already over 1100 members!

Anyway, it's good to see some familiar names and a familiar format.

Hello Everyone!

December 26, 2002, 08:48 PM
Like I say, I'm glad to be here!

im here from tfl....LOOKS GREAT!! thanks to whoever did all the work....

December 27, 2002, 05:08 PM
Place looks great.

I'll always think of TFL fondly, but look here for the future.

Thanks for a place to go. There was a sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach when I was reading Rich's sticky on closing TFL and I thought," Oh God, where am I going to lurk now???"

Thanks for filling that void before it even became a void.

December 27, 2002, 08:32 PM
denfoote here!! denfoote there!!! denfoote denfoote everywhere!!!

December 27, 2002, 08:47 PM
Hi. I'm gwalchmai and I may or may not possess one or more firearms. I saw your forum and joined hoping to find answers to questions like "Is .45 better than 9mm" and "Can I get in trouble by carrying hollowpoints if I have to shoot someone".

Looks good, Oleg. ;)

December 27, 2002, 09:08 PM
...and finally, I'm here!!

I was going to hold out until the 1st to register. But it is so slow at TFL I did not know what to do:confused:

Now that I got my education at TFL (only the two year associates, but it took three years cool: ), perhaps I'll be less of a lurker here.

Looking forward to many great things,

Charles S

TFL Alumnus, very proud of that fact, and I want to continue to be a proud member of this forum.

I went by the name LonWilson, and now with this new forum, I now go by my name, Lonnie Wilson.

I'm an associate member of the NRA, a member of GOA, and a member of the Pink Pistols, too.

No hiding what I am, either. Moved to Oregon 5 months ago after 13 years in Florida, and very happy here. Still looking for Mr. Right, who hopefully will share the same interests I do. :D

December 29, 2002, 04:32 PM

For those of you who do know me... I'm looking forward to countinuing our fruitful debates, discussions, acquaintances - and friendships.
