I got a pleasant surprise yesterday

My wife had taken a vacation day to extend the Labor Day weekend and of course she asked me “what can we do today?” I told her I would like to go down to the range and shoot for an hour or so and she decided to come along. She has never expressed such an interest, so I jumped on it.
A little background, she is almost 60 and has never even touched a gun before even though I have a rack with 5 rifles in my home office and a few handguns in other parts of our home. We set up on the 50-yard range with a scoped .22 and I started giving her instruction on the rules and how important following 100% safety at all times was.
The first clip she was very nervous, but by the 2nd she started getting comfortable. After around 100 rounds of starting to shoot out the black on the target she turned and said, “ I love this, when can I get one of my own?” When we got home she even wanted to learn how to clean and lube everything. I even think it turned her on…what a great day!
:D

I assume you mean a magazine instead of a clip. Good job on getting more people involved. My granddad just sent me a CTD mag the other day.

My girlfriend, now wife, was a little nervous about shooting the first time, but after a little instruction she took right to it and loves it. Now I just need to get her into thinking about carrying.

Funny side note, when I bought my SA 1911 she came to take a look at it before I could take it home (FL 3-day waiting period) and the salesman said something about her not being able to handle it. She gave him a mean look and made it pretty clear that she'd be just fine.:D Good girl.

Guys,
You would be surprised how well the women shoot that come to my NRA pistol courses.
They start out as if the "old man" forced them to be there (which they might have) but by the time I get them out on the range I have to almost beat the gun out of their hands!

Oh, and the saying is true (woman shoot better than men).

Where do you shoot Piney? You and your better half and my wife and myself need to get together. We have to move her up into the center fire rifles! I belong to a private gun club out on Rt.72E in Barnegat.

Rule....Make sure that you and your wife are on good terms and she hasn't increased your life insurance BEFORE you teach her to shoot!!!!:D

Response:

No Gun Guy I mean clip. I've been calling them clips since I was a kid learning to shoot more than 50 years ago and all the way through the Army when we called them clips. Too late to try and be PC and call them magazines because you call them that, or the current training does.

While she's still learning proper grip, stance, sight alignment, and trigger control, my girlfriend does occasionally shoot with me. Never really thought she'd even try shooting it once, but her reason for learning at this point is well understood by anyone:

YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN YOU'LL NEED TO USE IT!

She knows how to load/unload and "clear" a firearm and has all 4 Golden Rules down pat. I'm hoping her interest in shooting may eventually "boost up" as she becomes a better shot.

She's definitely not anti-gun/anti-lethal weapon, as she does hunt, both with rifle/shotgun and archery. I think most of the fear is firing a shot from something you don't tuck against your shoulder.
