Marking front sight?

I've found that might front sight is difficult to see in low light conditions. I thought to put a dab of white or orange paint on it to make it a bit easier to see.

My questions are, is this a good idea, what type of paint works best if so, and what are the other options? I don't want to have to buy another sight, so other options would have to retrofit onto the one I have.

I've used Nail Polish and Engine Paint.

Chevy Orange engine paint works the best for me. It's fairly resistant to chemicals such as bore cleaner and Gunscrubber. Spray a dab in the cap, let it dry a few minutes to thicken, then paint it on with a small brush. Put on two or three coats.

No matter what you use, you must degrease the part of the sight you are painting. Wiping it with alchohol or paint thinner on a clean rag works good.

If you want to make it permanent, roughing up the surface with some fine sandpaper will give the paint something to bite into.

Testors model paint in a variety of colors works well around here.

I have the answer! Use #508 "Seductive Red" nail polish by "Love My Nails". I put it on the front sight post of my AK and it works great. I also put it on the brass dot front sight of my Ruger M77 International and it really made it stand out. This is great stuff! I highly recommend it. It also doesn't melt or burn away when the barrel heats up. And it doesn't flake off.

any thoughts? Just this one: Try nail polish first. It's a heck of a lot cheaper.

Test the contrast against various backgrounds. Also, don't get any on top of the sight bead or post. It messes with you POI. Even the tiniest fraction of added height to my sight is noticeable at extended ranges. I've even used "white-out".
