Saw an ad for an upcoming auction that has what appears to be a 2 inch blued K-frame Smith model 10. If it's in excellent condition, what's the going value?

Depends on the age also.

Unless theres something unique about it, I'd go 350, tops. Depending on features and function (sights, trigger, history), I might stretch to 4 bills for the right gun. But that's just me. Anything more and it becomes a 'collectible' non-shooter, which isn't my thing. Depending on the market in your area, they can go for 275-325, average, probably.

Toolmaker: Where is that auction??? Don't know what I am doing wrong. I have had a excellent Mod 10 2" for sale in the classifieds for about ten days. $250 which I know is a fair price. It is in the 90%+ range, with pinned barrel, great factory grips. It is a MUCH better shooter, smoother, more crisp than my later Mod 10 that is a safe queen. Intrest from the forum=zero. Would you post here what that Mod 10 went for?? Thanks---Tom

I bought a new in box 2" RB Model 10-14 a few months ago. Paid $295.

My guess would be MIM parts and a floating firing pin? Good gun, good price, but not the same Smith. The 10-5 I have for sale is just a better gun than my10-7. Better double and single action. And if I could sell the cherry 10-7 for $295, I would be happy to keep the 10-5. Thanks for the reply

I just sold a 10-5 2". While these are strong .38 special guns. I think you would be better off getting a 2.5" mod 19 or 66. Unless your starting a Smith collection. Both models are priced within $50 of one another.

We don't get that good a deal around here, Popeye. The snubbie 19s and 65-66s go for about $100+ more than a blue Mod 10 and they are rare to non-existant. Not a lot of 2" Mod 10s but lots more than the .357 snubs. I think Toolmaker would do well if he got the Smith he wanted for around the low to mid $200s and would pay too much if it crossed the $300 mark. As usual just MHO and your results may vary.---Tom

fastball: You're correct. A 65 or 66 would be more. There's a lot of unemployment around here. Some shops won't take trades unless it's a desireable/saleable gun. So many guns have been sold to them outright, for 1/2 or less what they're worth. Cash is the opperative word. A $400 MOD 66 can be had for $350 cash. I should have made that clear. We've had concealed carry around here forever, hence a lot of CC type guns on the market.
