I've decided to bite the bullet and buy one. What is the best buy for the money. What do I want it for. Just to shoot for the pleasure of it.

The Armalite AR-50 (http://www.armalite.com/sales/catalog/rifles/ar50.htm) is probably the most affordable and practical model out there. You could aways dish out the cash for a Barrett (http://www.barrettrifles.com/) but the Armalite will get you into the .50 BMG cartridge with about a $2500 investment. The key to accuracy in these rifles is finding good bullets and not just the M33 ball.

Hahahahaha, look at what the AR50 comes complete with (this is straight from the website):
I don't have one . . . yet . . . but I've heard good things about the Serbu from everyone who's owned one including a gentleman who had both it and the AR-50. He preferred the Serbu and said it was more accurate.

But I'm keeping the McMillan:

The AR50 is a very mild shooter. The LAR Grizzly is a good shooter too, though the action is more awkward.

Read this post, it's from a group of .50 shooters in WA. Look at the number of AR-50's and the difference in their scores. It all comes down to the shooter doing his part.
