Frances missed me by 168 miles or so, but she was still able to do this.

Power just came back up an hour or so ago. Sorry for the delays.

September 9, 2004, 02:46 PM
Really sorry for all my good friends living in Florida. Everytime I see the weather forcast a large storm down there I worry about just where it will end up. Having worked many times over the past 30 years in Florida I have a good feeling for it. Anyway really glad to see the Highroad back online:) And I hope Ivan will stay far away.

September 9, 2004, 02:48 PM
Whew, glad you're OK.

Way to go, Derek.

I hope that your life hasn't been too affected by Frances, and that Ivan leaves you alone.

September 9, 2004, 02:59 PM
Oh thank god! *hugs THR and apologizes to her for taking her for granted*

Hopefully Ivan will avoid the SE US.............

September 9, 2004, 03:03 PM
Excellent. Thanks for keeping us updated, Derek. Throwing Knoppix on your laptop and hosting from there for a few hours was a stroke of genius.

September 9, 2004, 03:04 PM
Glad you are back. Now you just need to watch out for "Ivan the Terrible".

September 9, 2004, 03:10 PM
You've been missed!!

September 9, 2004, 03:26 PM
Its great to be back. :D

September 9, 2004, 03:34 PM
Welcome back, now you better explain your Knoppix solution before the all of us computer geeks get mad!

September 9, 2004, 03:38 PM
Mr. Zeanah:

Good to know that you and yours are safe. Hurricanes are one reason I no longer live/work in the Charleston, SC area. Rode out Hurricane Hugo in 1989. One instance of that was MORE than sufficient for me.

Keeping watch for Ivan...hope that one misses you by many more than 160 miles.

Warmest Regards, and thanks for all your work in keeping "The High Road" going.

September 9, 2004, 03:42 PM

Glad to see you're ok. Thanks for getting the server back up.

September 9, 2004, 03:43 PM
Keep up the good work. Thanks for getting us back online!

September 9, 2004, 03:46 PM
Excellent! Hope all of you in the area are alright. Two hurricanes in a matter of weeks is just plain insult to injury. Three is ... no words.

September 9, 2004, 03:48 PM
It's good to be home!

Now as for Ivan... I believe sm had an idea on that matter... something about discharging as many shotguns as we can muster into the storm, in a giant pseudo-skeet shoot to throw it off course? I'm in! :D

September 9, 2004, 03:53 PM
Glad THR is back! Don't let Ivan take it away again! :)

We're all just one power pole away from solitary confinement.

Highroad withdrawal sucks. At least I got an account on www.freerepublic.com now :p

Glad to hear that you all made it through the storm OK. Hope all your other amenities are back too, really miss AC and the fridge and running water and all that stuff when it's not there (was without all that for a week after Hurricane Fran, a few years back).

Missed THR a lot too!

Does that make me sick?

September 9, 2004, 04:51 PM
Welcome back. :D

September 9, 2004, 04:51 PM
Glad you're back and reasonably dry. Times like this, I'm glad I live in earthquake country.

September 9, 2004, 04:52 PM
Been suffering from MAJOR withdrawal. :D

Glad you guys are okay.

September 9, 2004, 05:02 PM

I was starting to get a little antsy. Especially after 2 days of ABC doing all AWB, all the time. Nice to be back with the normal people.

September 9, 2004, 05:30 PM
I am so glad THR is back. It was killing me not getting to read my favorite site.

September 9, 2004, 05:51 PM
I'm usually just a lurker 'round these parts. I just gotta say I'm REALLY glad you're back up...but mostly that you're OK after the storm.

September 9, 2004, 05:52 PM
:D :D :D :D

September 9, 2004, 05:59 PM
Just repeating others Drek but - thx a lot and hope things are normalizing a bit for you. Hope too Ivan will not prove yet another source of trouble for you.

Thx too to TFL for ''being there'' ... it was a saviour during the down time, and i think many of us were more than thankful to have such an alternative meeting place.

The sites really, are just brothers.:)

September 9, 2004, 06:18 PM
Another good wish and welcome back from Pennsylvania (hey Chris!). I've been "jonesing" bad for days.....

My wife is thrilled, I haven't bought anything off the classifieds.....:D

September 9, 2004, 06:20 PM
Thank God. I didn't realize what a wasteland the rest of the net had become. :o Good work folks!

I hope everyone in the Hurricane zone(s) are well. Look out for the next one. Jeeez.

September 9, 2004, 06:37 PM

September 9, 2004, 07:33 PM
Glad you are all safe. It's nice to be back on the High Road again.:D

September 9, 2004, 07:41 PM
I was about to call my doctor for an appointment because of fever and shaking with out reading new posting

September 9, 2004, 07:45 PM
Talk about withdrawl!

Sorry if I offend anyone here but "The Firing Line" just doesn't cut it for me. Especially in times like this when the regulars over there talk about how "snobbish" this place is and how THR was really just a replacment while TFL is the originator or that it is packed with so much useful (2 year old) information.

Hogwash. THR is better in every regard as far as I am concerned.

September 9, 2004, 07:57 PM
Just another note to say we are glad you and yours are OK and happy to see THR back in business.

September 9, 2004, 08:01 PM
I am shocked! No backup generator and Sat uplink??? :scrutiny:
I would have thought that THR was better prepared for SHTF :D

I think we should start a collection to buy a generator and ect for the server, so we don't have to suffer thru this again.

So give us a report on your real life SHTF scenario. Did you see any zombies? What did you do when the lights went out?

September 9, 2004, 08:09 PM
Glad to see you guys back!Iwas lost for a bit, glad to be back!

September 9, 2004, 08:12 PM
Good to see we are back online!

September 9, 2004, 08:29 PM

September 9, 2004, 09:12 PM
thank god:D now here comes ivan:what: these things are really getting me:cuss: :fire: . guess the only thing i can say to ivan is give it your best shot. i've started over before.:neener:

September 9, 2004, 09:41 PM
Thank God. I had forgotten what a wasteland the rest of the net had become.

Heck-I'd forgotten there was a "rest of the net"! :p I went to TFL, but it's like that loaner car you get from the dealer when they're fixing yours-it gets you where you need to go, but the controls are in the wrong places, and you'd just rather drive your own anyway. :D

September 9, 2004, 09:50 PM
Don't post alot here but didn't realize how much time I spent reading post until the posts weren't there to read.

Got an A#1 site here and I'm glad to see you well enough to put 'er back.

Really appreciate the effort.

September 9, 2004, 09:53 PM
