Finally finished my project, been waiting to get it tapped for a scope base. It is the only part of this I got someone else to do. Brought it home, refitted some wood to fit under the base, and took it out and sighted it in, rain delayed any chance of shooting a group, barely got it sighted in before a storm hit again. But here is a pic of it, not a great one, but you can see what I did.

where did you get the mount from?

Had the gunsmith take a standard weaver rail #82 and drill another hole in the back of, then drill and tap it to the front ring of the action. It seems to work real well, had to take some wood off the handguard to make it slide under the mount. Took it out this morning and killed a boar hog that dressed 190lbs with it at 60yds, so it works about like I planned on it to. It won't be a long range tack driver, but it'll be hard to beat up close and personal in the brush on hogs.

It is the first work I have really done like that, it turned out ok, have a few things I might change next go round, but am happy with what it became.

I've got something like that around here too. Oberndorf Mauser action, Remington barrel, Leupold M2 scope, reinforced Ramline stock...Bought it off a guy on the Scout list for something like $120 or so -- I had to add the scope, but the rest was there.

Shoots great. Gets finicky if you you put 4 rounds in the magazine (read: better have a cleaning rod ready 'cause she will double-feed), but shoots about .5 MOA, great action, wonderful trigger, and I can barely feel the thing kick with the Ramline. :D

Did you get Jeff Cooper's approval for this? ;)

No approval of Jeff Cooper but maybe the pic below would be a good showing of if it is practical or not...

Looks like it works just fine to me. It gets my approval, and isn't that what counts? :D

I'm in the process of setting up a scout mount on my favorite 91/30. I'm using a B-square with extra support and a bargain-bin Redfield 1.5x scope. Looks extremely cool. I'm on my way out to see how it shoots.

Cosmoline,

have fun, I may shoot mine for a group today later after everything dries out a bit.

Next time I don't think I will turn the bolt down, spent alot of time doing that and am not sure it really was needed. But figured since most of the time I work a normal bolt gun I would be looking for a knob down by the trigger guard and not up at the top, that and the fact that the knob disturbs your view of the target. Try it bolt straight next time and if I don't like it, reweld it later.

The smith was scared the mount would snap off with only two screws, but that remington factory stuff is pretty mild. Feels about like a 30/30. The mount seems pretty tough though.

St. Gun,

That's a mess of ham and bacon ya got there.

Rifle looks good too. How much ya got tied up in it? (If ya don't mind me asking)

D.Z., yours looks good as well.

I've been wanting to put a B-Square or some such thing on my Swede 38 for a "sortascout", as long as I don't have to alter it in any other way but remove (and save) the rear ladder sight.

Adios

$24 for the Turk mauser(it was the really rough ones SOG had for awhile)

$6 in blueing and finish

$5 in epoxy bedding(bought a big box of it)

$40 for the drill and tap of the mount

$49 for the BSA 42mm red-dot.

$124 bucks and a couple hours goofing around.

Next one I do i'll do the drill and tap myself, going to epoxy the mount into place, then drill it and tap it with it in place.

I have a few rods and some grinder stuff thrown in from reworking the bolt handle, but it wasn't much.
