Last night the 11:00pm news had a story with 3 interviews about Ohioans carrying concealed. They also directed you to the website for a list of permit holders in Lucas CO.

Here is their website: NBC 24 (http://www.nbc24.com/)

Notice the poll on whether or not you should be allowed to know who has a permit. The "no's" are carrying the day.

Ohioans, may I suggest that you have a word with Ohioans for Concealed Carry. Perhaps they would like to publish a list of names and addresses/phone #'s for the executives of the station that the CCW list is published on. If I recall correctly, they did a similar thing to a newspaper editor who published a similar list.

I would think the news station could be held liable for "reckless endangement" or something like it, if any of the people on the published list where to come under any kind of attack/threat.

Ditto on the publishing the personal addresses and phone # of station personell, right down to the door greeters.

I am disgusted by this, but its is nice to see what appears to be husbands and wives and brother and sister getting their permits together. After all, the family that carries together, stays together.

Thanks for the list of CCW holders. Now I know where to get a gun cheap.

While you're at it, can I have the names and addresses of TV station owners, station managers, reporters, camera operators, sound techs, receptionists and news writers? Oh, and a list of all blacks, gays, Jews, Gypsies, Trade Unionists, Communists and single women?

Thanks

And so increasingly we live in a society where everyone is entitled to privacy...

Except concealed carry permit holders...?

The world is upside-down.

My email to the news site:

"I just saw your list of handgun permit holders in Lucas County. As an [omitted], reserve law enforcement officer, and former [omitted], I firmly believe that the statutory provision against public access to the identities of permit holders was written for a specific purpose, and I genuinely hope that you thoroughly considered the consequences of your actions before publishing the article.

By providing the names of permit holders, your news agency has increased the likelihood of the theft of firearms by giving criminals a verified list of gun owners. By publishing a list of birth dates, you have provided information that may increase the likelihood of identity theft. Beyond the privacy issues, for the sake of your community, I hope that your actions do not lead to irreparable harm to any of the members of your audience.

Very truly yours,

[omitted]"

I'm forwarding this information to the NRA, which should have legal counsel look into the viability of a punitive class action suit.

How about publishing a list of all those who have had an abortion in Ohio?

The article rubs me the wrong way for several reasons:

1. It's an invasion of privacy, oddly reminiscent of paparazzi intimidation.

2. It's a blatant circumvention of the law, which prohibits public access to the information. The list is legally only available to LE and media.

3. It provides a list of targets for criminal activity.

Might I suggest that Ohio THR members start calling the local companies who advertise on this station and letting them know that you will no longer be doing business with any company that advertises on this affiliate?

Should the names of christians, gays, muslims, adult film lovers, and those who wish to voice their opinions and exercise their rights be made public?

I hope these folks pull together and sue the pants off this station. :fire:

Trust me, Ohioans for Concealed Carry is aware of this problem. We're doing everything we can to get the law fixed.

What we need is everyone that is thinknig about getting a permit but waiting until the law is "improved" to get out there and apply. The only way we will get this law fixed if the politicians see Ohioans applying and then get letters from the same Ohioans complaining about the law.

We will win this fight. It may take time, but we will win. Numbers help because the politicans know anyone that takes the time to apply will most likely take the time to vote!

I was in the published list that the Plain Dealer ran, luckily I work on the other end of the state and no one found out. Otherwise I'm sure there'd be some hoopla. If you watch the video clip you'll notice how the reporter makes sure to tell you they're the ONLY station to publish the list. All they care about is the almighty dollar.

The anarchist in me would like to see: Full page ad with names and addresses of the station execs and reporters who did this story time.

The smart person in me thinks we SHOULD see: MASSIVE and huge reckless endangerment lawsuit brought against this station, the personel personally who reported the story, the parent media company, and the members of it's board. Hit them for $hundreds-of-millions, and hit them fast.

Then I would like to see criminal charges brought against the same people. I want them in jail. If I can go to jail for filing off parts in an AR-15, (or just owning one in the PRK) then these fools should be doing hard time.

I sincerely hope no one is hurt as a result of this travesty.

They've changed their page to explain just why they think this is perfectly fine to do.

Guess we should publish the names of all those people who receive welfare, because after all..its from the State and the people have the right to know.
