I'm thinking of buying a used 686(w/o the internel lock) in Nor CAl. This would be a 4"-6" non ported 6 or 7 shot. What would be a realistic price $350-$400 $400-$500 more??. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks,RB

Good luck in finding a private party who wants to sell a 686. I wish I bought a 586 while I had a chance.
The price will be inflated here in California compared to the rest of the country. I would pay $400 + for one in great shape.
I'm never selling any of my Smiths!!!

I seen the 686 go in the Prk from $400-$525 depending on condition. I actually found a mint 4 inch a month ago for $400.00 my credit card almost caught on fire pulling it out to buy it .:D

I just got a 586 from Bullseye Sporting Goods in Long beach PRK for $275 shipped. It is a nice fit and function gun just blunig worn from holster. $297 out the door. Too much snow around here and the builder of a development next to my range is rebuilding the back stops and shooting benches so the range is closed, can't wait till Sunday for indoor range time.

I've seen a few in the last year from $350-$425 depending on condition & barrel length...the 6" seems to get a little more.

Prefessr you got a good deal on your 586 from Bullyseye in the PRK. The funny thing is they cant sell the 586 to a PRK resident because its not on the APPROVED list, unless its a PPT.:banghead:

The 686 is going new for about $525 to $550 in the Bay Area, so used ones should be running about $375 to $450 depending on condition. BTW: I smith these guns and I can honestly say the new lock does not do anything bad to the gun's performance. That said, the frame mounted firing pin is a dog that just increases the required trigger pull force. And, the MIM hammers and triggers I am seeing on new guns are babboon-butt ugly.
