Rem is now producing "Heavi Shot" in a OO or OOO size. Anyone tried the new stuff?

Now deer hunters can enjoy the superior performance characteristics of HEVI·SHOT. Introducing Premier HEVI·SHOT Buckshot loads composed of a proprietary tungsten-based alloy, HEVI·SHOT pellets are 10% heavier than lead. Testing at Remington® has shown a 40% tighter pattern at 40 yards compared to standard lead buckshot. Even more impressive, the penetration is 18% deeper giving deer hunters performance unlike anything ever produced.
Well, I'm interested in the concept, I'll say that much.
This is the first I've ever heard of it.
I also found that they now offer the 597 in .17HMR. Neato.

I'd sure like to see an objective review of this stuff in say, American Rifleman. Better yet, some of our contributors here.
The concept is good, but let's see some results..

I see very little downside to using it. Keep in mind as its more dense you can probably drop down one size and keep the same penatration depths. Or keep the same shot size and get deeper penatration. Only downside is expense. Also you would want to make sure your shotgun patterns it well. I will not be stocking up on it, or shooting it in practice I can tell ya that.

I've had a hunch for a long time that #1 buck may be the best compromise between size and pattern density. Hevi-Shot in #1 buck should have the best of both worlds, weight of 0 buck roughly and more pellets.

well, does 000 buck usually exit an opponent? I seem to recall that it does not. If the hevi-shot increaes penetration enough to make exit wounds a sure thing, it seems like it would be worth it, for deer or BG's

I'm worried it'll be hard on the steel targets we use at the Swat WC3gun match.
me and my father are going to see if it is sometime soon.

I've kept my house gun loaded with 3" Magnum 000 buck loads for some time. I'm curious myself as to how well the Hevi-Shot stuff would perform. Is it on the shelves now?

An avid waterfowl hunter that I work with loves it but says the cost is pretty high.
Here's one review.

One good aspect of 3" oo buck (such as S&B) is that the velocity is lower...less pellet deformation and much duller report...easier on the ears.

Should be interesting. I'd like to see it as a reloading component. Lead buck is really soft and leaves much to be desired when velocities are high, or bufffering insufficient. Right now, the cost is prohibitive for HeviShot, as it is for Bismuth. Penetration should be even better than the increases seen in waterfowl hevishot, as the larger pellets won't have the little "goober" pellet deformities that took away from some of the pellet penetration in the waterfowl loads.

Any more news? I think No.4 (HD) or No.1 (LE) heavyshot buck would be improvement over lead.

I have part of a box of 2 3/4" 00 left. It didn't pattern that well out of my guns, but it does penetrate. A piece hit my target holder and through a 4x4 at 40 yards.

If they bring it out in 3 1/2" 10ga I give it a go

Really need a super heavy slug.
DU slugs would be nice but that Radiation thing could be a problem.

I'd be worried about overpenetration using this in a SD capacity. I'll stick with LE light buckshot.
