Billll brought his black powder mortar to start the festivities.

Crystal was chosen to do the honors.

Today was a good day, didn't even use my AK.

(But I did use a variety of .357's, .45's, .22's, 9mm's, a 12G, .480 Ruger and a concrete mortar.) :)

Good food and comraderie was in easy abundance and it was great to see a lot of familiar faces from last year. I'll have some pictures to upload from my camera phone on Monday or thereabouts.

Thanks Larry, the whole gathering was a hoot.
and it was fun to meet everyone.

That cannon was unreal. Loud doesn't begin. Think a pop can filled with concrete (I dunno, 1.5 lbs?) going a LONNNNGGGG WAY.

Cool
I want one.

Oh, Pueblo to Longmont: 2 hours 5 minutes. door to door: 2 hours 25 minutes. Good thing we were doing the speed limit.;)

Thanks Larry for your hospitality!

Good food (yeah, that nacho salad thing was excellent) ... shooting ... a good time overall!

Now I'm dying to hear what the story is behind the cops photo  especially ironic since when I talked to Larry as I left he joked that "at least the cops haven't shown up".

Larry Ashcraft

Story now!
Zak, you missed the best part. Cops showed up, said, "We got a call, gunshots on the Ashcraft place"

"So what?"

"Well, the explosions were a little over the top."

So they came down (took their time, they said; this IS the Ashcraft place after all), said "neighbors want to know what the explosions were."

"Black powder mortar" I said.

"Can we see it?"

"You betcha"

"Ya'll have fun, wish we weren't workin'"

I think Zak set those poppers up about a gazillion times, and we all stood back and let him do it:

Hey, it's just like a day at an IPSC or 3Gun match, but less work!

I liked it when they were set to only fall over for the 480 Ruger, or a head-shot with 44Mag. A quintuple-tap with a 40/45 might just make them fall...

You did offer the cops a doughnut or at least a deviled egg didn't ya? No, but BILLLL did offer to give them copies of his bumper stickers.

LEO: "Ummm..."

Those poppers caused more than a couple good lines to come out.
They were mighty heavy and set to lean forward so it did take quite a bit to make them fall.
first Billlll has his .22LR, hits it like 3 times NOTHING happens, he turns around and says "I need more gun" and picks up something bigger.

Then, it became obvious later that you needed a team effort. So, 3 or 4 guys would work their way down the line, and 2 or 3 shots at once (357, 45, whatever) and it would go down. head shots worked best. (more leverage)

About 3 of us were shooting at the last one and it goes down and I said "see, it takes a team to raze a village"

ok, I thought it was funny.:p

did anybody get a pic of Justin's revolver. it was cool.

Billll demonstrating the fully automatic loading feature of his eeeeevil sniper assault mortar, which can pass undetected through airport security, and could easily be purchased by terrorists at gun shows, although it would admittedly take four of them to lug it home.

The leftist extremists' worst nightmare come true: a black man with one of those terrible assault sniper weapons that are about to flood the nation's streets and cause sewer blockages from coast to coast—or something like that, anyway. It's hard to keep up with all the phobias floating around these days.

From the Colorado get together thread,July 19th,2004
(BTW,I have a 25 yard berm in the back yard.Since my neigbors are close,I'm going to ask for a limit to handgun calibers only (although last year we had some fun with Labgrade's 309 JDJ).

Boy, I'd hate to fire Billll's 12oz.-06 caliber mortar in a revolver frame. Maybe a Wichita,or Contender frame with a couple Handy-man jacks for cross sticks. What do you think Larry? This year we had sooooome fun with Billll's mortar!

I have one problem ................ where the heck is a pic of photographer #2 .. where the heck is a pic of the mysterious and mythical Standing Wolf ... dang it - I had hoped at last to see this fella ... and now .. zilch. Great Pics!

I gotta get one of them Black Powder Cannons. I have an Idea.

Well it is finally nice to put faces to members / some voices.

I guess I'm going to have to come out - somebody has to fell some birds for Crystal's wonder dog to retrieve - didn't see a shotgun - not a one. :p

Chris, and I need to make a effort to attend. Invite the Cops and neighbors...My theory - invite the neighbors and cops- who is gonna complain? Even if someone did , who are they going to complain to? :p

Billl - I have a question / inquiry if I may. Umm... can a fella do up a load of pellets...what kind of payload would a fella be looking at? Just wondering :uhoh:

A mortar?

man oh man... I missed one heck of a day.

Billll
September 18, 2004, 11:06 PM
The pop can full of cement weighs about a pound and a half. I fired the thing once with a six pound lead ball, and the recoil broke one of the axles. I'd say fill 'er up with marbles, or musket balls, top the load off with a styrofoam keeper, then tilt it over near horizontal for the worlds largest sawed-off.

Oh, wait, the fellow who went deer hunting with the 12 lb Mountain howizer already did that.

Well, how about duck, then?
