A 19-year-old Pendleton man died Friday night in a shooting after the Pendleton-Woodmont High School football game.
Anthony Bernard Hagood, 19, of Pendleton was shot when several spectators got into an altercation in the Pendleton High School parking lot about 10 p.m., according to an Anderson County Sheriff’s Office statement.
During the argument, Kevin Pitts, 19, of Anderson pulled a 9 mm handgun and shot Mr. Hagood, according to the Sheriff’s Office. He was later arrested at his Sherman Drive home without incident, the statement said.
Mr. Pitts is charged with murder and possession of a handgun during the commission of a crime and is being held at the Anderson County Detention Center.
Mr. Hagood suffered from a single gunshot wound to the chest and died upon arrival at the Anderson Area Medical Center, Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore said. An autopsy completed Saturday morning confirmed the gunshot wound was the fatal injury.
The men were believed to be arguing about a female and a child, Mr. Shore said, but did not have further information.
Marcus D. Brown Funeral Home in Anderson is handling funeral services for Mr. Hagood. Arrangements are incomplete at this time.
"He was a great, great little young man," said Lena Hagood, a distant relative who attended church with Mr. Hagood and his family at New Holy Light Missionary Baptist Church in Pendleton.
Mr. Hagood played drums and was a well-mannered man, she said.
"He was raised in a real good family," Mrs. Hagood said. Mr. Hagood is the grandson of Eva Hagood of Pendleton.

Dumb, really dumb.
Perhaps they can find how Mr. Pitts came to be in possession fo a handgun, and if there was an 'adult' contributing, they can hang them both.:fire: Arguing over a girl at age 19, and then shooting someone over it is fairly high on the 'height of stupidity' scale, definitely a good reason to keep him out of the gene pool, not to mention off the streets.

Castration now, so he can't pollute the gene pool. Death/life in prison when (not if) he commits another felony.
