Stupid after AWB magazine question

As we all know, after the sunset normal cap mags will again be available (hopefully). What about converting the neutered mags to full? If it is even possible, will it be legal? This was just a fleeting thought as I was looking at the mags that came with my CZ-75b. When they are filled to the neutered limit (10) The 10 rnd witness hole in only a hair over half way down. So, this think has got to have a follower a half mile long. Given where the 10th round sets there is easily enough body left to hold at least 5-7 more rounds. I was thinking that all it would take is to change the follower and maybe springs.

With the expiration of the AWB, there are no laws regulating magazine capacity (check your state laws). You can manufacture a 1000-round magazine in your basement if you are so inclined. There is nothing regulating the modification of existing magazines, as well.
In fact, at midnight tonight, I will be putting +2 extenders on my Glock 29 mags, increasing their capacity to 12. You hear that BATF??!!!??? :p

No - for the 10 round mags to be legal, they had to demonstrate to ATFE that any attempt to convert them to higher capacity would render them unusable. Call CZ-USA in the morning - they have standard cap mags available, and keep your 10s for IDPA limited 10 division.

Just to expand upon armoredman's comments: Although it would be legal to convert your 10-round magazine, it's physically impossible to do so.

Not that I don't believe or disagree, but why is there so much mag left when it is full? each time I look at one of these mags I can't help but feel like it is just not full, like something is wrong.
Man I hope prices on real mags will come down at least a bit from the $50+ prices I was seeing at the show this weekend, but I'm not holding my breath.

Doesn't the worthless ban actually end at midnight tomorrow night(9/13/2004)?

DSW1117,
There is so much mag left when it is loaded to 10 rounds because it has to fit in your gun like the normal capacity magazines do. Different manufacturers dealt with ensuring the magazines would not hold extra rounds differently. I don't know how your CZ mags look, but my Beretta mags have indentions in the sides that keep the follower from travelling past the legislated limit. Mec-Gar made the plastic base plate tall enough to take up the extra capacity so they look like little magazines on a tall baseplate.

Keep them for range work. Go make friends with a gunshop and buy 15 rounders. :)

I'm glad the ATF posted on this subject. I just wish they would refrain from referring to semi-automatic weapons as SAWs. To me that's squad automatic weapon.
Can't wait for my mags! :D

The follower on the Walther P22 is huge. I wonder if I could cut it and get a longer spring to replace it... 14+ round .22lr!

So I can get higher capacity mags now? Sweet! Does anyone know where I can find mags for a Taurus PT111?
Thanks!

Has anyone tried to convert the S&W 59 series mags? Looks to me like the only difference is the spring, and the dent in each side. Looks like the dents can be cut out, or filed from inside, and the spring can be changed.

The little taurus millenium autos were designed around a 10 round capacity. I wouldn't expect a big increase in firepower. The 9mm might go up to 12 though.
