Numbers are according to opensecrets.org, as of the most recent FEC filing on July 31, 2004:

HCI PAC:
Assets at Start of Reporting Period: 58,928
Total Receipts: 14,098
Total Disbursements: 66,982
Assets at End of Reporting Period: 6,048

GOA PAC:
Assets at Start of Reporting Period: 50,195
Total Receipts: 117,069
Total Disbursements: 64,534
Assets at End of Reporting Period: 102,728

NRA PAC:
Assets at Start of Reporting Period: 1,834,015
Total Receipts: 9,817,366
Total Disbursements: 4,466,765
Assets at End of Reporting Period: 7,184,615

Q: If the AWB truly had broad and nationwide support, why is it that at the end of July, HCI-PAC, a nationwide gun-control political action committee which makes donations to candidates for office, had only $6,048 available during a Presidential Election Year??????

Because obviously Republicans=NRA, and the Republican party is a bunch of rich CEOs that like guns, so they keep slipping money in somehow  ;)

I think it would be interesting to see the average contribution and the number of contributors for each of those groups.
I think its kinda funny that GOA has over 10 times what HCI has, considering GOA's considered a very small gun-owners group.

Yeah, but HCI is even smaller. They just like to pretend they are big.

Similarly, in Minnesota, we have a group variously called "Citizens for a Safer Minnesota," "Minnesotans Against Being Shot," and "Repeal Conceal."

As Joel Rosenberg points out on his blog (http://www.joel-rosenberg.com/), all three "groups" are, in reality, a single would-be do-gooder named Rebecca Thoman and her successful grant applications, doing checkbook advocacy with very little grassroots support.

Any single person can get a P.O. Box and a fax machine.
