... has no clue that the AWB has already expired. All they could keep saying on the phone was "We don't know anything until we get a letter from the ATF. We can't *do* anything until we get a letter from the ATF."

They actually sounded scared. It was kind of pathetic. I tried to tell them the truth and bring them up to date, but they wouldn't believe me.

The only shop anywhere around here that *is* up to date won't pay any better than pawnshop prices for the gun or guns I want to sell, and they were rude to me on the phone to boot.

Do they have a computer handy? Direct them the ATF website. They have three letters there!

Mine had Homeland Security rifles ready to be sold, as soon as the AWB sunset.

Titus, they told me on the phone that they don't have a computer.

Which is really odd since waaay back in 1987, when I went there to see about joining their gun club so as to be able to train on their range, their eyes got all wide and they told me that first, they'd have to "feed my name into The Biiiig Police Computer, to make sure I wasn't the sort of person who shouldn't have a gun." Evidently they no longer have access to that Biiiig Police Computer.

BTW, they also told me that even if I was okay according to The Biiiig Police Computer circa 1987, I'd still have to put in an "apprenticeship" of X-number of hours mowing grass and cleaning out the Port-A-Potties on their range, before I could train on it. (It was and still is a "cold" range, BTW.)

They also used to refuse to sell normal-capacity Glock magazines to private citizens *years BEFORE* the 1994 ban.

Shazam!:) Well, if you still want to give them your money, you could always print them out for them and fax or handcarry it. But sounds like they're in the business for some reason other than making money...

Wildalaska and i stopped in a few gunshops yesterday and not everyone is up to speed on the issue. one guy was a complete jerk and insisted that it wasnt over until wednesday, and that the atf had to make a decision on LEO marked materials, and that he had talked to them blah blah blah. same jerk has a used sig 9mm for $1000. and a rack of rifles that havent moved all summer long, from ar's to ak's to mausers. i've picked up the same milsurps every time i've been there. same ebr's.

i think that most gunshops are upset that they have all this inventory that they cant pricegouge for, so they will try to hold off as long as possible selling the low-priced items so frustrated customers will break down and buy the high priced preban materials. i call it the 'moses complex'. they claim they cant do anything until they hear from Yahweh himself.

the other gunshop didnt have any inventory of pre-ban/post-ban/leo stuff to sell, but they werent dogmatic in their attitude towards it.

another gunshop i stopped at over the weekend said they had lots of inquiries about the expiration of the ban, but werent going to stock up on anything for a month or so to see how things transpire. its a CYA move on their part, which i cant fault them for.

Heh, I just left my local gunshop (Va Arms in Manassas). Not only were they aware of the sunset, they were answering questions over the phone the entire time I was there to that effect.
