CA import question, pre-ban M14/M1A

Hi!
As noted in general, I'm going to be showing off an M1A gizmo down CA way, and it suddenly occured to me... my showpiece is a pre-ban with real live evil flash supressor and even evil-er bayo lug.
So um..... should I just pull off the whole FS assembly before I leave Idaho in order to stay legal, or do the laws care if --
1 -- the rifle is Fed legal
and
2 -- the rifle is only in the state for about 4 days?
thanks!

Kaylee, my advice would be to call the California Dept. of Justice Firearms Division and ask one of their agents.

The only way you can take a rifle like that into Cali is if you are going to a sanctioned match-maybe if you are just passing through, also.
Showing off? Nope, unless you want to grind off the lug, as well.

Well, I just talked to a Ms. Kathy Quinn at the CA DOJ.. so you guys are my witnesses. :)
She said as long as I removed the flash suppressor/bayo lug/font sight assembly to get rid of the Evil Features (and didn't sell my Evil 20 round mag to anyone while I was there) -- all was kosher.
Oh..um... though it just occured to me. Is a threaded muzzle a CA evil feature? I know she said the bayo lug wasn't.
** edit.. just answered my own question.

looks like I'm cool. :)

what gizmo and where?
I'd like to take a look, and depending when, you might be able to shoot in a match while you're here.

Good luck shooting a rifle in California with the front sight in Idaho.

Yeah I just warned you about that in the other forum. When the law first came out there was this thing about having a threaded barrel, but somehow the M1A got around it or they dropped that part. All you have to do is put on a PRK legal muzzle break. Since the bayonet lug is on the flash supressor, it is as easy as can be. Don't have a PRK legal flash supressor? You can probably pick one up at a gun shop here in the PRK. Otherwise you gotta wait a few months to get one from SA.
