Replacement magazine bodies

Maybe some of you folks could answer this.

For the less-fortunate states in the Union (California), would it be legal for out-of-staters to disassemble their magazines and ship the bodies to California as replacement bodies?

I do realize that some manufacturers sell replacement bodies, but there are more hard to come by bodies such as 20rd ar15 magazines. Some of my range mags have feed lip cracks and I'm trying to allocate some replacement bodies.

Thanks in advance,
Jim

Duke,

Someone once told me that as long as one part of the mag is older than the ban. Now I assume this is Federal, I don't know how the state would interpret it.

Sorry if this isn't much help. :o

I've heard that too, Skunk. Though I suspect it's a question one doesn't want to ask--they'll say "no" of course.

With a weapon, you have the numbered receiver AS the weapon, all else is spare parts, and replacing a damaged receiver means that one must be destroyed and a replacement with the same number issued (And Sarah was wetting her pants over that).

A magazine consists of body, base, follower and spring. Which part is the "magazine" and which the accessories?

It looks as if you could replace any part at any time, and burden of proof would be on the complainant to show it was entirely post ban.

Which would mean heavy, expensive lab analysis of the plastic/metal to determine age since production, and then try to tie in mfr date.

Which would be about impossible.

So one should be able to do it discreetly, if one doesn't mention it. Of course, that it should be legal doesn't mean you won't be arrested and charged and made a public spectacle of.

I am not a lawyer, consult with your usual yadda yadda yadda disclaimer here.

My wife suggests you "acquire" four pre-ban components--body, base, follower and spring, from an obvious source...

...and then buy "replacement" parts for each component, thus yielding four "pre ban" magazines each with one pre-ban part.

I'm sure there's a legal problem with that somewhere, but boy, I think a prosecutor would hate to spend the money.

This is why I married her.
