Light Loads

Does anyone here shoot lite target loads and use a filler material (ie grits etc) to finish filling the case?
Lets say I use 31.5 gr of varget. I know the case will hold 41 gr. So I use say 8 gr of filler to top off the round and get rid of the extra airspace.
Am I working the twilight zone here? Has this been done?

I've never tried it myself but I remember reading something about the Army doing that with M1 Garand loads way back when. Sorry but I can't remember what filler was used.

True story...
My friend used dead, dried insects to fill out his .40 cases. We did some informal testing and they were more accurate too!

I have used 18 grains of Unique and a 130 grain in my 270 Winchester without any filler. this load is good for 1,850 in my Ruger #1A and inch groups at 100 yards.
In my Ruger #1S 45-70 the only powders I use are Unique and 2400 without any filler. all loads shoot quite out of this rifle as well.
