Saturday (9/11), I went to a local Patriot's Day Memorail Service where the local JROTC cadets placed a U.S. flag in a field for each servicemember killed in the Global War On Terrorism, over 1,000 flags in all. Three of those flags represent personal friends of mine (Ariel Rico, Michael Acklin, and Pierre Piche). I also met the widow of a soldier who was killed in the same helicopter crash as CPT Piche. It was a very solemn service and very moving. I wept openly, especially during the 21 gun salute and the playing of Taps.

Afterwards, I decide to remember my friends in a way I knew they'd appreciate, and I went to the range. Pierre would have especially enjoyed it, as he was a gun-nut from Vermont who would have fit in here perfectly. Before hitting the range, I went home to get the guns and some targets. I printed some pics of Usama Bin Laden off the net, as I felt that was an approriate target for the day.

I stapled the pictures onto targets and placed them downrange. One went over the X-ring of a B27 target and was placed at 100 yards. I shot it 9 times with my Rem 700PSS. The first group was high and to the right, so I adjusted the scope a bit. The second group was marred by a flyer, caused by a bipod leg slipping on the second shot. The third group was beautiful. So beautiful that only a picture can do it justice. So, here it is:

You can see the first group over his ear. The second group was the hole under his lip, the flyer by his neck, and one of the holes between his nose and upper lip. Te third group consisted of the hole in his cheek and two of the holes between his nose and upper lip. That group measures 7/16ths of an inch! I'm very happy!!!

The equipment:
Remington 700 PSS .308
Leupold Vari-X III 4.5-14x40 AO mil-dot
Harris bipod
Accu-shot monopod on rear sling swivel
168 gr Federal Gold Medal Match Grade BTHP's

was that at the Battleground Academy down there in Franklin?

I've driven past there several times this week and it gives me goosebumps every time.
