I was adjusting the trigger on my Remington 700 tonight when I sheared the top off the overtravel screw. The rifle was made in the late 60's -early 70's and doesn't look like its been adjusted before.

I put kroil on the screws and worked them free, but the overtravel screw was very stiff and binding badly. I Unscrewed it until it stuck out about 2mm above the trigger housingput some oil on the threads and was turning it back in when one side of the screw's slot sheared off. The trigger is still usable, but now has an obnoxiously long overtravel.

COuple of questions:

ANyone know where I can get a replacement trigger (I want to stay with a 700 trigger to avoid modifying the stock)?

Is the trigger fixable? I've never taken a 700 trigger apart, but wonder if this is doable, and if its possible to find a replacement screw.

Why don't you just call Remington and have them send you a replacement overtravel screw? Maybe somebody here could send you one.

I'd contact Remington directly. However, due to liability reasons, they may not be willing to send the trigger directly to you. You could always tell them that a qualified smith will install it.

Called Remington, they said they would not send the parts to me, I would have to take it to a qualified repair center, which I don't have the time to do.

WhiteKnight- PM sent
