I'd check it out carefully. Do the parts all match? Typically SKS's use serial numbers on the stock, bolt, magazine and receiver. They all need to match. Are these Yugos? If they are commercial Chinese, be wary.

Cheapest I've seen AIM selling for is $89.95, and that's for shooter grade (ie banged around abit) non-matching Yugos. But they may have some in worse shape, or missing some parts for less. InterOrdinance or Centerfire one had some not too long ago for $39.00 that apparently had been stored under sea water.

I got one of the $109 Yugo SKSs from AIM. It was all matching and finish was 75+%. Just got to go shoot it today, but it is quite accurate with cheap Barnual ammo and has virtually no recoil. It came with a log book, which is pretty neat.

Hope this helps,
John

They have a special of completely intact (minus cleaning rod possibly) with condition worse than the Shooter Grade they are selling at $90. It's tempting, I only want one to join my Romanian, for the price, $70, it's hard to imagine it not being worth it.

I recieved mine on Friday. Every bit as good as the "shooter grades" (89.95) models I bought several months ago. The one I recieved is a 59/66A1 made in 1976. All matching numbers, finish 85%, stock has normal dents/dings (carried but not abused). The gas piston, op rod and bore all look like it was unfired. These do not come with the cleaning rods (IMO worthless anyway) or the accessories. Not a problem for me since I'd rather have silent sling and chest bandoleer anyway.

As to Commercial Chinese, no one is able to import these anymore, so Wholesalers like AIM are not likely to ever have them. Just FYI.

I've bought several firearms from AIM (03 FFL) and have always been pleased. Although I've only had to use their customer service dept. once, they impressed me by getting the problem fixed IMMEDIATELY.

Order one ( or more) and use the $$$ you save for ammo! Here's the link for the $69.95 Yugo's:

Man, that is tempting. Wish I hadn't just ordered one of their Savage Enfields. I'm already going to have to hide that one from the wife.

How much is shipping on that rifle?

monsternav

The Last Confederate: They only charged $20 for shipping my K31 and 60 rds.

Anyone: Is it worth getting one of AIM's 149.95 "select grade", or should I go the 109.95 "Very good"?

Every SKS I got from AIM was nice so if you plan on shooting it, might as well save some cash and get the shooter grade. They are not rusty or banged up so don't worry about that. I think $69.95 is a good deal but I got one from AIM for $79.95 with free shipping and it was one of the Shooter grades not the below Shooter grade so I am not running out to buy more just yet.

With the AWB over:D I have other things to spend my money on right now!

I got a select grade for $150 last winter and it is very nice. If you look hard, you can find signs of use on the wood parts. The metal parts show virtually no sign of use.

I got the $69.95 special that I ordered yesterday. I haven't had a chance to de-slime it yet, so I can't attest to the condition of interior parts, but it looks solid. No cracks in the stock, just some dings, finish on the metal is worn, especially on the magazine. Made in 1969.

Mine came with an ammo pouch and a logbook. First time I've seen a logbook with something other than a "Like New" rifle. I can't read Serbo-Croatian, but they did something to the rifle in 1997, and in 2002. My guess is took it out and functions-checked it in 1997, and sold it in 2002.

I ordered one last night. Case of 700 rds too. Unfortunately the UPS guy doesn't come to my house until about 2000 (He delivered my K31 at 2040)!! Kinda hard to hide that! This will be the first rifle I have to "de-slime" (thanks Langenator). Hopefully I can put some rounds through it after the IDPA match Sunday.

nfortunately the UPS guy doesn't come to my house until about 2000

Wow, I thought he came late when he dropped stuff off at 1800. Guess they work pretty late.

This will be the first rifle I have to "de-slime"

Just a tip in case you haven't already read about it, use (low scent) Mineral Spirits. It just cuts right through the cosmoline. I used it for the first time just a couple weeks ago on my Czech Mauser, it was so so easy to do. Just remember to rinse and dry when you take it out of the Mineral Spirits. Good luck!

Geez, I should order one... aurgh! C&R of doom!

AIM is good about customer service.
I ordered an SKS several months ago that was supposed to be in 'excellent' condition.
Externally, it looked pretty good.
Internally, it was coated with heavy rust.

AIM took it back without hassle and gave me a refund and even included my return shipping charges.

Okay, who is on the phone with AIM?! :p

I have finally decided to order the SKS and a Mosin Nagant 91/30 since that is "only" an extra $60. Plus 800 rounds of the Czech Silver Tip stuff. So get off the phone! :D

Edit: Phew... shipping is $54 for two rifles and 800 rounds of ammo? :( At least I don't have to pay a transfer fee too...

I almost did the same thing (Mosin/800 rnds), along with the SKS. Sanity prevailed however! This time anyway.

As to the mineral spirits: Do you dump the whole rifle in?

I know what you mean. I literally just got my K-31 (from Allan's Armory) about 1/2 hour ago in my office (2nd delivery attempt by UPS, and I got them to change the address from home). Anyway, She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed is now visiting her mother with the kids, so she doesn't know about it. Of course, there's a limit to how many I can hide - the safe is almost full, and going to a second one would look a bit suspicious.:uhoh:

Not unless you want to strip all of the finish and oil off of the wood. And that would be a big bucket o' mineral spirits! Just break it down as much as possible, since after the mineral spirits, and rinsing, you'll need to dry it and re-lube.

I put all the small parts in a bucket, used a brush to speed the cleaning along after it sat in the bucket a few hours, and I had the receiver end of the barrel in the bucket to soak too. There are a few other postings about it, try a search, you'll see lots of other peoples experiences. I think some people have also sprayed it and wiped. But the bucket worked well, less than $6 from Wal-Mart for it all.

I almost did the same thing (Mosin/800 rnds), along with the SKS.

You should have. :D My M44 hasn't been fired very much, with this ammo, now I can enjoy it some. Just gotta remember the Windex! (I feel like the Greek father from My Big Fat Greek Wedding!)

It's so easy when you're ordering one to just say, "It's only another $XX.XX if I add this one." That's why my closets, and my checking account, look the way they do.

I should have been more specific. In my mind I said "All of the metal bits of the rifle"
