Do legal firearms have a place in this society? Are men and women to be trusted with firearms?

The gun bashers keep telling us hogwash about how unsafe firearms are, we cannot be trusted with them unless we, register them, are licensed, pay a fee, only buy one gun a month, and have a waiting period before buying a firearm.

Think about this;
My son, 21, is a Marine stationed in Kuwait. He is armed with, at the minimum, an assault rifle, (I wish I had one).
In the same area there is probably another 150,000+ other yougn men with assault rifles, bayonets, grenades, bazookas, martors, tanks, flamethrowers, and all other implements of war.
They trained them to use them, but, didn't license them.

How many incidents do you hear about them using the firearms on each other, running up and down the streets killing anybody that gets in their way or any other illegal use of their firearms?

My conclusion is;
With that many armed persons in that small of a space, what the anti-gunners are saying is totally disproved.

Desertdog: you're missing a key facet of the anti groupthink; when they seek to "ban guns", that's shorthand for "ban private gun ownership".

No part of their position advocates that the military or police should be disarmed; those are the folks with guns they call to protect them. Their problem is with "citizens" protecting themselves.

You see, by virtue of being employees of the government, all military and police officers are by definition "good people" who can be trusted to act responsibly with guns.

You can't have an all-powerful nanny state, when the state is without arms. Most folks in CA don't seem to have a problem with the likes of Feinstein and Perata carrying guns. (We can trust them. We just can't trust YOU.)

Every ''Liberal'' IMO should be on the receiving end of a criminal threat by firearm ... and consider the very usefulness of possession to counter said threat.

It's very logical. You have guns. They cannot push you around the way they intend unless they disarm you. Thus, they demand "gun control."

The "anti-gunners" all admit that criminals will continue on their merry way. They do not obey the law. They could care less, they want you to obey them.

The "anti-gunners" care little for crime. They live in nice neighborhoods. They are surrounded by bodyguards. They do care about you being armed and that you should not be.

My sister-in-law lives in Maryland and she's a liberal :banghead:. Here's a sample conversation the last time she came to visit me in my country (somewhere in totalitarial asia):

Me: Gosh, if i was an US citizen living stateside I'll get all the necessary permits and buy myself a nice revolver for home defense.
Her: Oh no.....me and your brother have thought of getting a gun for our apartment but we think it's too DANGEROUS.
Me: But haven't you ever considered the thought of a home invasion by a robber who may be armed?
Her:Yeah we have but if a break in does occur, we'll just accept it and comply with the robber's demands. The cops will handle it from there when they arrive. Besides, we have pepper spray....
Me: Lemme guess....you're voted for Al Gore didn't you??

My sis-in-law is petite and could not fend off a determined perp even if her life depended. Her husband (my brother) is also not much of a fighter. I just don't understand how they can be so dumb. :rolleyes:

At the military schools, I have yet to hear about crazed students shooting each other; yet there is an armory and they are even trained on proper usage of said weapons..

You do the quick math; how many guns in the states vs. how many deaths caused by a gun;

then you do the math of how many swimming pools vs how many drown.

There was a study; a house with a swimming pool is 100x more deadly then a gun in the house, statistically..

If "guns are dangerous" then the most endangered people are our boyz and girlz in war, DURING peacetime..

Well that is CERTAINLY better than owning evil GUNS!

And it is definitely FAR better than USING an evil gun, because we all know it is far better to be raped than to have to shoot someone.

I mean, look at how many innocent children die because of guns every year!!!

And we all know how much crime guns cause, because if criminals didn't have guns, they wouldn't commit crimes like rape!
