Iowa CCW question

Just curious what any of you fellow Iwegian high roaders (or anyone else) think about the possibility of the Hawkeye state going shall-issue? Anyone heard of a push to do this, I have not. For some reason I'm paranoid of Des Moines turning into Chicago some day, and their gun control cancer spreading to the rest of the state. :uhoh:

It seems to me we have the same problem as a lot of other states, where you have very liberal/socialist urban areas foisting their beliefs on the rest of the state. Your thoughts, highroaders?

You'll have to wait for Vilsack to retire, hope for a good republican pro gun rights governor and that the GOP still controls the house and senate. Shouldn't be a problem then.

I don't think DSM will turn into another Chicago. Polk county is probably one of the easiest places in Iowa to get a CCW if your a resident of that county.

I live in Boone county and it was relatively easy to get mine, just spoke with the sheriff and he laid out the giudelines he looks for. I filled out the app and he approved it, then I took a course through Training Specialists out of DSM and had it in hand the following Wednesday after a Saturday Class.

I feel bad for you if you live in a county where the sheriff doesn't give out CCW to anyone. I have lived in a few of those counties in the past.

In Marshall County, I have not applied, but my father in law has (and he got his). He told me that the sherrif said that if you put self defense as a reason for wanting to carry, he won't accept that because that's his job.:barf: I know this is hearsay, but my FIL has no reason to make that up and lie to me.

I have also wondered if seeking shall issue would stir up a hornets nest at the state house, and spur some dems into coming up with some state AWB or somesuch. Our elitist may-issue system is rediculous though, and needs to be refomed.

As for Vilsack, I too hope he does not run again. But if the Republicans here keep running losers like Gross and Ganske, its going to be tough. (Bill Salier was awesome, but he had too much of a spine for the country-clubbers pulling the strings in the party).

In Marshall county, it's my understanding that if you list self defense as your reason to carry, our sheriff will deny you because he sees that as his job.:barf:

Our elitist may-issue system needs to go, but I would not want to see the dems and RINO's stirred up about guns, and we end up with a state AWB.

If the Repub's in this state keep running weiners like Gross and Ganske, we're not going to get very far.

I agree with you MrApathy about the lack of push of 2A issues here. I think we need some sort of Iowa GOA, for example, or us gunnies are going to get seriously steamrolled one of these days. I don't even think the Iowa constitution lists RKBA????

For my reason I put

I travel early mornings hours on my way to go fishing or hunting and have had a few unnerving situations happen on the highway in the hours between 3-5am that I did fear for my safety.

I spend quite a bit of time in deep rural areas of Iowa and I am worried that I will run across someone or somebodies involved in the production and distribution of methaphamines.

That is pretty much what I wrote, the sheriff did say if I wrote for hunting purposes that he would not approve my application.

I would talk with the sheriff slugs-away, better to hear it from the horses mouth than third person. I think talking to the sheriff is one of the reasons why mine was approved so quickly, or maybe because I have a clean criminal record?

I'm part of the happy socialist paradise of Iowa City and the lovely warm arms of Johnson County. I've been told by a gun shop friend that it is possible to get a CCW in Johnson County, but they don't hand them out like they do it other states. Being from the Daley-crat Dominated anti-firearms hellhole of the Chicago Metro area and Cook County, I personally think that Iowa is a bastion of 2nd Amendment freedom and happiness.

We from Cook county can't even order ammo in the mail or even think about owning a firearm within smelling distance of Chicago city proper (which is why Chicago is one of the world murder-capitols - no bayonetings - gun control works flawlessly again).

PS - I've got to give mention of my favorite gunshop in the world - The Ammo Bearer in Iowa City is run by a stand up guy and I've bougt 5 of my rifles from him; I've never dealt with a more honest guy, and a guy who stands buy his word, and doesn't try to to sell you whatever junk he can't get rid of.
