Autoloader, minimum of 6 or 7 round capacity, SA/DA, .380, 9mm, .40 cal, or .45 acp, light weight (under 25 oz.), slim profile (1 1/4" wide max), must have a manual safety. I have two 1911 weapons (Kimbers) which I love, but I'm just a little uneasy about "cocked & locked". Any suggestions?

Makarov appeal any?

I like mine-its slim, holds 8 in the mag and didnt cost much. The ammo is very reasonably priced too.dissassembly is a snap, just tilt the triggerguard down and pull back on the slide and lift it off the frame. The safty is decock but when the safty is flipped on,the hammer falls and the slide is locked..its this way on my bulgarian mak but perhaps the east german version has a different safty.

the 9mm mak round isnt bad at all,its 9x18 mm whereas the more common 9mm round is 9x19mm,the 380 is 9x17mm...its sort of an in between caliber...more than a 380 and somewhat comparable to the lower end velocities of a 9mm 9x19.
Accuracy and reliabilty wise, this mak does more than I tought the little gun could at a third the cost of the 380 sig model or the walthar ppk...for the money,it was my best buy ever and am very pleased with it.the only downside I see in the mak is the small sights which I am coloring them in hivis sight paint...you can also go to the makarov website, there is a host of services that they do and give ideas for.

CZ75 or one of its kin. For the money, I doubt you'll find a better pistol. The dang thing fits my hand better than my $600 BHP!

I prefer 9mm in this package, though I haven't handled their .45acp 97B model, yet. If it's as nice as everyone says, it could be mine real soon.

Bersa .380? Or the Bersa 9mm or .45? HK USP or P2000 compact? Beretta 84? I'm not sure of the width of some of these, but they seem to match what you're looking for pretty well.

I have both the .380 and the mini9. Both fit your size criteria. The .380 is, of course, slightly slimmer, but the 9mm will give you 10+1 capacity(.380 has 7+1). I love both and had zero problems with either. The Bersa website has the unloaded weight of the .380 at 23ozs. and the mini 9 at 24.5 ozs.

They both have a manual safety which also serves as a decocker. If I could get a carry permit in this part of the PR of Kali, I would list them as carry pieces without hesitation.

Para LDA Maybe a little heavier but worth it

Have you heard about the world class SIG-SAUER P220A?

Only 2 ounces heavier than your specifications, and
one word that separates it from the the rest of the field:

RELIABILITY

How about a S and Wesson 3913. If not that he out of production Colt 380 govt. is a slim compact weapon and despite the small size I have found them to be quite accurate.

How about a poly-Kahr in 9mm???

I 2nd the Bersa's then I'd say a Kahr or maybe a PPk/s. The Kahr is the a good pocket pistol in 9mm.

:)

Bersa Thunder 380 for out of the box reliability and easy accuracy
(Kel-Tec P3AT is very light but may need work and has harsher felt recoil)
Kahr MK9 for 6-7rounds of 9mm sweetness
The SIG P220 sounds very nice, if pricey.

Why not rent and try, before you buy?

Best way to know what pistol suits your hand size,
body type/size (for carry), and general temperament

Not trying to be a smartass here---have you thought about a thumbbreak holster?

I don't think my comment's unrelated to your question; I can't envision any time C&L would make me "just a little uneasy" unless I was carrying.

I thought of the Kel-Tec as well, until I remembered he wants a manual safety.

Ooops. I missed that, Dave.
Thanks... I think I need to up my meds.
Or cut back.

I would go with the Sig 220 or 225, If you consider a trigger a manual safety.

A few points ;)
ultima ratio regum
Their last, as well as their first, I'm afraid, considering how their bloodlines come to power.
In a sense, the 'last argument of kings' is confusing cannon with canon.
The blood of their subjects is then spent hopelessly trying to bridge the gap.

quis custodiet ipsos custodes?
Best guess? Brainwashing and/or military discipline,
which supplants individual will with the will of the king.
Comes in handy when kings run out of arguments, often against his own subjects.

neca eos omnes. Deus suos agnoscet.
God definitely sorts them out, but we try not to arrogate unto ourselves
scheduling when He has to do the sorting.
;)

Ne'ertheless...

Get a Hi-Power and be done, you'll never second guess the decision or the pistol.

Sounds like you want a "safer" 1911. Get a Para LDA single-stack and you've probably already got the right magazines, ammo, cleaining equipment, holsters, etc.

Easy.

Sig P225! Slim profile, scary accuracy, simple to use with great sights. AND you can get them for quite a bit less than the P226 these days. Finest autoloader ever made IMHO. I cry nightly at having to sell mine a few months back, but I'll have another one some day.

H&K USP Compact in 9mm or .40 meets all your specs but weight. They weigh 25.3 ounces. They're not what I would call slim but they're under 1.25 inches. You can carry them cocked and locked, hammer down and safety off, or for the belt and suspenders types, hammer down and safety on (I think the CZ is the only other common pistol to let you do this).

The Smith & Wesson 3913TSW 9mm is 24.8 oz., has the manual safety, and is a very good gun overall. I would definitely check one out.

At 28oz, the HK P7 is slight overweight, but its slim profile makes it very easy to carry - easier than the ligher Glock 26-27 in my opinion. The squeeze cocker satisfies your "manual safety" requirement. 8+1 9mm.

By the way, C&L with a 1911 is safe...

For CCW not many if any can beat the SIG P239 in any flavor you like 9MM(thats what i have) .40 s&w or .357 sig.

They are 100% reliable, comfortable in most hands (after u install houge finger groove grips), and best of all they are as accurite as most guns twice as big.

Im not just a SIG fan im a full blown SIG-O-haulic.

faustulus,

LASCIATE OGNE SPERANZA, VOI CH'INTRATE"Abandon all hope, (all) ye who enter"

I dunno, Alighieri was literally concerned with 'El Infierno'.
I thought we, on the other hand, were discussing the kings, the cannon, and the canon
of this world, hehe.

agnosco, agnovi, agnitium: know, recognize, aknowlege. you know, from the greek. As for the schedualling, I have know way of knowing God didn't tell the monk to kill 'em allCome on, now... :)
"{Kill them all}, God will know his own"---, the exhortation argues to absolve the killer of having to 'know' between the innocent and the enemy, since God will know between the two when the dead get to the other side. To what end, God's acknowledgment of the the good and the evil? Why, that the one may go to heaven and the other go to Hell, and that IS 'sorting'.
;)

I agree there's no way to know what God said to him, if anything at all,
but he came up with one enduring, soundbitey old saw, no?
:)

On a last point, I agree we OUGHT to be the check and the balance.
I'm afraid, however, that we no longer credibly fill the role, nor can.
Thanks for the discussion!

ezypikns,
Congrats on the Kimber :)

I'm going to suggest a Steyr S9 or S40

10+1 of .40 or 9x19 in a comfortable and concealable package
