I have an 03 FFL. I haven't bought anything on it yet. Recently my uncle gave me a turkish mauser.

Question 1: Do I have to log this into my bound book? He gave it to me in person, and it did not cross state lines. I don't mind logging it, just want to know if it's required.

Question 2: The gun has no serial number. My uncle bought the gun in the early 60s, which I assume is before they started requiring serial numbers. Are there any problems owning this gun? If I need to log it in, do I just write "no serial number"?

1) Yes. Once you have the 03FFL, all C&R weapons acquired must be logged.
2) There should be no problems owning the gun as long as it was manufactured without a serial number. Just log it in the book with 'no serial number' and I'd attach a photo and description of the rifle to the back of the book for my own records in case the gun was ever stolen.

If it had a number that was removed at some point, that is a violation of the law and I'd contact your state police or ATF office for advice on what to do with the gun.

How would one determine if the gun had a serial number that was removed or was manufactured without one?

If it is a Turkish Mauser, it should have a serial number. Do you know what model is this?

You also want to try www.milsurpshooter.net. There are many knowledgeable folks there about C&R.
