daschle campaign

September 26, 2004, 05:34 PM
this afternoon while i was cleaning out my truck i noticed 4 kids walking down the street. they didn't look significant - just like the local high schoolers (maybe they were). anyway, one of them stops and tells me that he's campaigning for tom daschle, and handed me a flyer, full of photos w/ daschle and a shotgun...

he asked me if i was going to vote (yes), and am i going to vote for daschle (no). he looked a little shocked (a sign that daschle has a lot of support in this town?). i told him that there were a few reasons but my number one single biggest reason was 'guns. he's anti-gun, he's voted against gunowners, and i have no use for somebody like that.' the kid stood there, looking shocked for a moment, like i had just dotted his eye or something, then said 'ok, that's all i wanted to know', and left. as he was leaving i noted he was scribbling furiously on his clipboard...

i wonder if i made a mistake? daschle has proven time and again (w/ his votes, and w/ his correspondence to me) that he doesn't care about the gun vote so i wonder if my comment means anything. should i have said yes, he has my support because of his anti-gun votes? (might've looked funny, though... i had my p-229 on the seat of the truck, a rifle leaning against another seat, a dozen or so boxes of ammo on the dashboard, a few shot up targets, and a couple nra stickers on my truck - bumper, front and rear windshields - and the kid was standing right next to the open door talking to me).

so... next political call i get from daschle (and there is sure to be several more - always is), whaddaya think i need to say?

I think you said plenty - and accurately.

IMHO, there are many, many reasons (not just RKBA) not to vote for a man like Daschle, who acts one way in Washington, then portrays himself as being on the other side of the political spectrum when campaigning.

Look at his ads picturing himself with Bush!

Next, he will show himself with a shotgun - yea, that's the ticket!

Does his voting record line up politically with his picture scrapbook? I think not.

I don't ever vote for tax and squander leftist extremists, of which Daschle is a classic example.

Next time he calls I'd be more specific and say that co-sponsoring S.1805 and later conspiring with his liberal Senate friends to kill that bill through a bunch of poison pill amendments and questionable coneference committee appointments is not "pro-gun", even though he may try to paint it that way.

You could also cite his vote to continue the ban on semi-autos or his vote to make sure you pay for the cost of a trigger lock with a new gun whether you need it or not.

Finally you could point out that as the Senate leader of his party, he has let the voices of Schumer and Feinstein dominate his party's stance on gun control and if he can't lead his party any better than that, exactly what is he going to do for South Dakota?

Of course, I donated to Thune's campaign even though I live in Texas, so I could be biased.

Next, he will show himself with a shotgun - yea, that's the ticket!

He already has, and it makes me want to puke. Tommy the Commie is trying to appeal to the Elmer Fudds who wouldn't hesitate to sell gun owners down the river, so long as their precious hunting guns aren't touched.

If you'd like to donate to Tommie's opponent, John Thune, go to https://www.rapiddonor.com/JohnThune/ or check out his campaign at http://www.johnthune.com/

I've given some money to his campaign. Every little bit helps in a low-populated state like South Dakota.

i donated to thune in his bid to take johnson's place. unfortunately he didn't turn out... i'm really hoping thune can take daschle - but i'm not sure he can... daschle is certainly out-advertising him.

it absolutely blows my mind that s.d. put this ninny into office. s.d. is a very pro-gun, pro-hunting state. yet, somehow, daschle got into office, and has stayed there. now, add herseth to the mix (dem who is very likely to beat repub challenger diedrich this fall), and our 1 rep and 2 senators are all dems - 2 of which have voted anti-gun (herseth is unproven at the moment, but w/ her strong liberal ties to ny, i can only imagine how she'll vote on gun issues) - meanwhile, bush will probably win s.d., and our governor is a repub.

pokey- the guys i've talked to about gun control issues aren't concerned in the least. one guy told me that 'even if the house, senate, and president were democrats, they couldn't ban guns. the nra wouldn't let them, and there's like 4 billion members of the nra'... (what's the u.s. population, again???)

I'll tell you how Daschle got into, and stays in, office. Old people, Indians, and farmers. Democrats bring home the bacon, so to speak, in the form of federal subsidies, grants, etc. Who benefits from them the most in SD? The three groups of people I listed.

I'm not saying that politicians stay true to their word, but Herseth was interviewed by the Argus Leader a while back and stated her support for te Second Amendment. I email our elected officials frequently and both Herseth and Johnson have responded as being against the "Assault Weapons" Ban. Johnson claims he voted against it before. Not really sure if that's true or not.

Thanks for the campaign link!!

I just donated $50 (and I'm from Ohio). PLEASE help Thune!

Daschle is definitely Jekyll and Hyde in SD vs DC. Knocking him out of office would be a superlative achievement.

I sent Thune a few bucks earlier this year, and a few more last week.
Getting rid of Daschle would be sweet.

I sent $50 to Thune, Colorado.

I was surprised to get a solicitation for Thune in the mail here in Virginia a couple of weeks ago. I think it was from GOA or some such--can't remember-but was happy to contribute. Daschle is a NATIONAL problem, not just SD. :neener:
