View Full Version : Buying a demo suppressor?

I have an offer on the table for a Gemtech M4-96D for $450 that was a demo unit. It has had a couple hundred rounds through it, and maybe some full auto. I'm going to test it out myself at the range first before putting money down, but is this a good price/risk for this suppressor, or should I request a new one at ~$700?

It's a major purchase, especially with the long wait and tax stamp, so I'm seriously considering the new option. But if Gemtech will honor their warranty, there's no reason not to go with the new one if it checks out okay at the range.

Who are you purchasing it from? Directly form Gemtech, or form some one else?

Regardless, my advice for all NFA purchases is buy the best you can’t afford and keep it for life.

I’m half way through my second NFA purchase and it’s another Gemtech suppressor. Their top quality stuff.

It's from a dealer, not GemTech direct.

I've seen the innards of the Gemtech and know a couple of the guys that manufacture then. Truth be told, I don' t see what could possibly wear out. It's just a stack of metal baffles in a tube.

and check your PM.. :)

I wish I would be able to have the ability to own one of these..Being in a state that finds it illegal even with proper licenses..

It would be very nice to be able to use one of these as wanted..

Do you have a pic available to share??

Thanks and have fun..

While there may not be much to ware out, they are still prone to overheating; especially when shooting FA. Demmo equipment is used for demonstrations, usually to prove the ruggedness and durability of a product to potential purchasers. I’m not saying its been abused or anything, but to the dealer it’s just another suppressor. To me it’s one of my most prized items and has been babied since the night I picked it up.

Personally, I’d say go new.

Sigh. So far, my local police chief hasn't been very interested in talking to me. Until then, I can't put down any money - why would I when there's no way to know whether I can get a CLEO signature? I may have to move to make this happen. Worst case, incorporate, but that's a can of worms of which I'd rather steer clear.

Your local cop is not the only one that can sign the form 4 you need. Go to the Sheriff he is usally the one to do them. All you have to do is walk in there and ask to talk to him. Ask him if he will sign a form 4 on what ever you are buying. If he says no ask him Y? He is not the only one that can sign that form. The dam coroner can sign the form. District attorneys can sign it. Your not stuck with just your local rag tag cop signing it. My local cop said no. I said Y he said you dont need it! So I went to the sheriff he signed in no questions asked. And he continues to sign them no questions asked. I had my attorney right a letter to my local cop stating that he violated my rights and that he might want to reconsider signing the form or we were going to sue him personal. He called me and said come on in I will sign it. The letter cost $50.00 bucks. So whats your rights worth to you?? GOOD LUCK!!!
Shawn.

Purchase the suppressor, and get the form 4s all filled out. Then drive by the sheriffs office and drop them off to be signed. One way or the other they will get back with you. If the Sheriff says no, tell him you would like him to state the reason for not signing in writing. This might scare him into signing.

Ask your C3 dealer who is signing in your county. They usually have a list to CLEO willing to sign.

Just remember to buy the suppressor first, and go in there with completed form 4s ready to be signed. You have to take this seriously, and not seem like some one just looking to waste time.

Don’t give up.

Beren, You might want to check out the Halo sound suppressor from GEMTECH. They're advertised as working with any of the standard .223 flash suppressors.
