Not even for your carry gun?

I have done this more than once, and it was a bit disconcerting driving home from the mountains with all my guns and no ammo!

I leave without ammo, but I never shoot the gun I'm wearing. Guess I bring enough in the first place. :)

"I am completely out of ammuntion....that's never happened to me before...." :D

Yes I do. The days where I bring the most ammo I end up leaving with most of it unused though

I bring my scoped pellet gun (Beeman P3) and a tin of Beeman Match pellets to ensure that this never happens.

There is always 'ammo' left... ;)

Actually, I got to the Sacramento shoot yesterday and realized that I had only packed:

-100 rounds of .45 ACP
-200 rounds of S&B 9mm
-150 rounds of .22 LR

... for five hours of shooting! Doh!

Must... remember... my Federal Bulk Pack .22 LR next time...

Mark IV Series 80,
Never. Guns maybe pretty hanging on a wall, or in a museum, but if they're empty when you need 'em, you'll find a place next to the dodo bird... I always carry shotgun and pistol in my car- plus whatever I'm going to shoot. I always have "combat" ammo, loaded, locked, cocked, and ready to use... Always be prepared for anything, and never let 'em see you sweat...

Carter, oldpaladin, out...

defense gun ammo left at home, but if I go shooting all ammo is to be consumed , the only 2 time this didn't happen was when the day was called due to tornado warnings ( sirens blaring ) in the area and heavy lightning strikes .., and when we ran out of sunlight .. but a box of defensive ammo comes with JIK ..

Only once, I had let my gunsmith try my extra (loaded) mag I kept in vehicle, in a customers gun ( sorting aout problems-- another gunsmiths work). We each thought the other had reloaded the mag...I just used his BUG till we got back to shop.

I now keep extra carry ammo for 2 calibers in vehicle.

More times than not, I shoot all the ammo I bring...one reason why I only bring a few hundred of everything I shoot.
Funny thing happend today at the range. I got to talking to a guy a few lanes from me. He bought a SIG 380 for his wife. He was shooting it, gonna clean it & then give it to his wife later in the evening. Anyway, he shoot all his ammo & left. I shot for another few minutes. When I left, I noticed on the bench in the lane he was one, the guy had left the gun. I picked it up & tried o catch him in the parking lot. He was gone  Couldn't figure how someone can run out of ammo & leave a gun! :what: I left the gun w/ the range guys for when the owner calls for it.

Not for many years. I have gotten down to 10 rds of carry ammo or just fmj ammo in carry gun. I have fired all rifle ammo but kept some pistol ammo.

When I head to the range, the gun I'm wearing doesn't get shot (carry gun). Neither does the spare ammo for it I carry. If my carry gun is to be shot, I carry something else. What ever is on my hip at the time does not get shot.

I do the same as 2xTap. The gun I'm carrying concealed doesn't get shot.
One of the last places I want to be unarmed is around a bunch of people I don't know with loaded guns!

I've done it several times but I had the same reaction as the original poster (didn't like it) so I don't do it anymore.

Also I don't let anyone shoot my carry gun anymore. It seems everytime I let someone shoot one of my guns, they either damage it or it malfunctions. People somehow don't treat your guns with the same respect they treat their guns.:fire:

I don't (can't) carry so that part isn't an issue. As for the other part, I rarely ever leave the range with ammo. If I still have ammo it isn't time to leave yet!

Jedi_7.62
February 24, 2003, 07:19 PM
I carry 2 full clips +1 of carry ammo. I leave this in the car when I go out shooting. Of what I take to shoot none ever makes it back home again. If I shoot nothing else I shoot my carry weapon. Must keep sharp on your primary.

Yes I made this mistake once and felt very uneasy the whole way back to the store. It was when I first started carrying so the habbits hadn't quite taken hold yet. Guess we all live and learn.

Pitty you folks in states where you "can't carry" those 2 words chill me to the bone, really when I read that the hairs on the back of my neck stand straight up.

Where all are you guys who can't carry from? I thought the only place like that was Wasshington D.C. and the city of Chicago.

Sisco
February 24, 2003, 07:42 PM
I live in Kansas. We do have open carry, subject to local ordinance. Ex Governor (Republican) vetoed a carry bill a few years ago, part of the reason was that the bill didn't allow individual cities or counties to remain "carry free" if they chose to. (that makes a lot of sense, leagal one minute then cross an imaginary line and become a felon!)
:banghead: :banghead:
New Governor (Democrat) said during the campaign that she might allow retired LEO's to carry but no one else. Can't trust the common folk ya know. :fire:

Don't recall ever doing that. I may shoot all of one or two firearms, but I always keep ammo for my carry gun.

Otherwise it's just an expensive rock.

Yes every time! After the range it is time to reload and purchase more. I feel pretty safe driving from the range to home without any in my carry gun, as I seldom (<10%) carry.

Many more places than that, I'm afraid. Here in Denver, CO the sheriff just flat won't issue except to cronies. Some other counties like El Paso have more amenable sheriffs, and in neighboring Jefferson county it's at least possible if difficult, but we're pretty much hosed within the city proper.

There's a shall-issue bill in the state senate right now, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Years ago, I went with a friend to shoot my new Ruger Security 6 357. Vince lived oooin a real redneck area of southern Ohio, and we went to an abandoned quarry to blow off some round.

He told me to keep ammo when we were finished for 2 reasons; 1) in case we ran into any of the local rednecks, and 2), there was a group of strange people nearby who had armed guards patrolling their acreage. Rumor was that the 'clan' were some type of devil worshiping psychos, but we never really found out.

I always remembered that time shooting, and have never had a guun with me that I did not have ammo for.

When I lived in a no carry state. The ammo had to be seperate from the pistol. So it didn't matter. Now that I live in a carry state. No. The only pistol I shoot at the range is my carry pistol. I put my loaded carry mags in my range bag. Load my range ammo in other mags. Shoot. Wip off my pistol (feed ramp). Load pistol w/ my loaded carry mags. Go home. Load my secondary pistol & carry. Unload & clean my primary pistol. Load my primary pistol & carry. Unload my secondary pistol & secure.
