It was time...

... for a re-aquaintenance with an old friend!
So, after much thought and deliberation, I cleaned out my toy account and bought a new rollmarked Colt Government model in .38 Super.
I went with the base model as I prefer to build to suit myself and this one starts life with good steel, good internals, and a good made-in-USA name. :D

Thanks all for your kind thoughts. Here are mine (if any are interested :p):
I'll likely change to a round spur hammer, and .250" Smith & Alexander grip safety, but have no plans to change thumb safety or slide stop as this won't be a carry or defense piece (strictly for fun).
The rear sight will likely be changed out with one from Millet, probably the Mark II, but I will keep the white dots, as I actually like them.
The trigger is a definite gonner... It will be wearing a Chip McCormick long adjustable shortly after arrival, as I like the styling of his trigger shoe and the bow is top notch, IME.
It will also be getting a flat steel MSH, probably a Les Baer serrated model, or maybe one of Smith & Alexander's checkered versions. If this one proves to be a keeper, I see the frame heading for Tripp, later in the year, for a bit of hard chrome.
Grips, if they are as red as the picture will have to go... although some dark figure would help immensely with them. I guess I'll just wait and see how they look when the pistol arrives, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed the grips are the biggest "problem".
I've about decided to order some gaboon ebony grips for my Kimber Classic and Pro Carry (both stainless), and may live with these on the Colt until I decide if it's a keeper, and send it off to make it look like the Combat Elites I once owned (alas, both were poor examples of Colt's true ability).
