Did you ever have one of those days...?

I just got back from what should have been an enjoyable trip to the range. I should have saved some money on cartridges and just thrown the weapons at the target.
The only excuse I can dream up right now is that I was shooting 2 pistols I don't normally shoot. Yeah. That must be It.

I should have saved some money on cartridges and just thrown the weapons at the target.

I have journeyed down that path many times and the answer is trigger control.

Oh, yeah, had plenty of those days. Days were I couldn't hit the broadside of a barn, days when I would get brain fade after a few rounds hit exactly where I wanted, then there was the day I had packed everything except the magazines.

A bit ago I posted about going to the range and bring the wrong ammo.

Yep, I've had my share of those days ... and will probably continue to do so in the future ... dammit.;)

Since it's obvious that those kind of days are an unavoidable cosmic natural law ... if I could change something lese, it would be to be able to foresee them. If I could do that , and if i could get them to be arranged so they could occur together ... then I'd arrange to take a vacation somewhere far, far from the range ... or anywhere I might actually need to to shoot ... and do something productive with my time.

Since that isn't going to happen ... I generally bite the bullet (or one of them anyway, so it'll be useful for something ;) ) and devote my range time on those days to whatever other disagreeable task or practice I wouldn't ordinarily feel like performing. Might as well get it all out of the way at the same time ... :) :uhoh:

I shoot two evenings a week, plus occasional week ends. I have "those days" more often than not. My standards of shooting well have evolved a bit over the years, but the simple fact of the matter is that I'm not a natural shot, and am contending with aging eyes and arthritis.

As I practice it, shooting is about trying more than succeeding.

Every day at the range is a good day no matter how you walk away from it.:D

So, you're saying it's a lot like "Fishing"? ;)

I went out to shoot subguns a couple of weeks ago.
At the sandpit I discovered we'd forgotten the magazines for two of the three guns I'd brought.

Some fun was had with one.

Some days it would have better if I just threw the bullets down-range. At least I would'nt have to clean the gun then. :D

Then some days I can put 30 shots through a fist sized hole.

I did notice that my shooting got better this year after I got my first ever pair of glasses though, bi-focals even. Must be better lighting at the range. ;)

Had those days, too.....when I couldn't hit the ground with my hat...and other days when everything dropped inside the 9-ring.

Although the days when I miss the ground with my hat far outnumber the "inside the 9-ring" days :banghead:

I think those days come more often than any of us would like to admit.

My boss has a range just outside of the shop I work at.
I shoot every night...My guns or his...
Some days you can't hit the swinging pickel at 35 yard and some you
make lots of relish...

I have empirically ascertained that the amount of quality time I enjoy at the range is inversely proportional to my caffeine consumption in the preceding 12-hour period.

If I am planning a trip to the range after work, I'll usually skip coffee that morning. I might nod off and slam my face into the keyboard several times at work that day, but at least I'll have a productive range session.

You think you got it bad, I worked as a range officer, and had 15 lanes for 8 hrs a day, 5 days a week. Those lanes were filled with shooters having one of those days. You can imagine my days.
