Alright guys, how many of you shoot or used to shoot registered targets?
ATA, NSSA, NSCA, FITSAC, ect...

I used too shoot registered skeet. It is a fun way to meet new people, travel and see things, but the time and energy involved gets old quick. I got burned out after about 4 years and shooting about 4-5 hundred birds a week either in rgistered or practice. It got to be WORK.
Now when I shoot I don't care if I break a perfect 100 straight and I have lots more fun at it and still shoot almost as good or better at times because the pressure is off.

kudu,
Similar for me.
Then I made some life decisions - like being an older returning Student.
I used to shoot registered skeet as well. I took it too serious and had to back down . 16 practice rds in one day is what woke me up. I quit being so serious and my scores improved. Still managed to shoot 25k rds of 12 ga alone the last year I competed.
Not to mention the 5 stand, Sporting Clays, and some ..err.. pigeons were involved . ;)
I met a lot of great folks. I had the opportunity to be taught and then teach. I am sad because many folks have passed on....the stories and the memories live on....
I was out at my old club the other day, I can still run a straight with a borrowed gun. I can still run a good score at 5 stand.
One "borrowed gun" ....well actually a few of club members bought and gave that gun to a Club member's kids. He was killed in car wreck and the kids always came out with daddy . The widow mom gained suport from the womenfolks and we took the kids under our wing .
Last time I saw that 20 ga 1100 it had a youth stock, and the kids were not near old enough to drive.
" Hey Old Fart - why don't you shoot this one ....you remember this one?" Damn right I remembered it ....mixed feelings of memories, teaching, sentimental stuff ... Okay so I dropped the first pair of doubles - I ran them after that.
So yes - do sign up and shoot some registered birds. There is more to competition than the scores, the checks and the stuff you win.

I used to shoot registered skeet but as the others have mentioned it soon turned into work. After I shot 100 straight in registered competition I gave it up. Now I just shoot a few rounds a month.

I shot ATA for several years. Due to a job change I simply don't have the time anymore. When I shot registered I felt I had to shoot between 3 and 4 days a week to stay on my game. I still feel that way! Showing up without getting practice time just led to scores that I don't want to talk about. I think everyone ought to try to make one of the major shoots once in their life. I got to shoot in the Grand American twice and its something I will never forget!
