Sounds like a pretty good place to live. Maybe they should vote out the board NOW.
I didn't see anything where anybody had been harmed. Dd

POWNAL -- A committee appointed by the select board plans to review and discuss a proposed gun-discharge ordinance for the town.
"There were concerned citizens who came before the board that had a complaint that there was a lot of shooting going on in between homes," said board member Don Prouty at a Sept. 23 meeting, "and it was actually impeding the safety of children and by-passers or whatever. That's what churned the whole thing up to where it's at today."

The committee, scheduled to first meet on Oct. 14, will consider an ordinance created by the town planning commission. Should it be accepted as is, the ordinance would ban the discharge of firearms within 500 feet of a residence or another structure. Also, guns would not be legally fired if the "path of the bullet would carry within 500 feet of a visible residence or other structure."

Residents would be allowed to shoot within 500 feet of their own residence, provided all other rules were followed.

The planning commission based some of its work on other gun ordinances in the area.

"I don't think we need to re-create the wheel," Prouty said. "I think it's been created and I think we can take from what we have been provided and come up with a good working document as an ordinance for the town of Pownal."

At least one other resident attended the Sept. 23 meeting to voice his concerns that a person's rights not be infringed upon.

"It seems like every day you lose something," the man, who could not be identified, said. "I'm from the old school. We carried our guns to school. The teacher never asked us if it was unloaded. He said 'Stand 'em in the corner,' and on the way home, we hunted."

Recognizing an ordinance would "substantially" reduce areas where residents can fire guns, the planning commission has recommended that the board "create a firing range for the benefit and enjoyment of town residents."
