My friend and I have been spending alot of time in South Park, Allegheny County while building and operating a haunted house for charity located in the park. During discussions with others, we have been told many times that you can't leaglly carry in a COUNTY park. We are almost certain that this isn't correct. We have been told that the COUNTY parks dept. has banned carry in the parks. Isn't that preemption??
Granted everything is in order, valid permits, etc. Could sombody steer me toward the law that states carry in a COUNTY park is illegal? Or if this IS legal where it is or isnt stated? Also where can I find a copy of the preemption laws?

thanks for the help

Dave

I am not a lawyer. This is not legal advice.

To the best of my knowledge, counties have no authority to dictate how or where firearms may be carried. STATE parks can and do prohibit CCW and, arguably, may do so legally as they are managed by a state entity.

County parks have no standing.

Who is telling you this?

I have heard this from just people, a know it all, and beleive it or not county LEO's. That is why I am asking for help in citing the laws. If the LEO's don't know the law then we could have a long and expensive misunderstanding.
